slowly take away small amounts of her food every day. find something she will chase and keep it moving for at least ten minutes a day so she keeps moving. and play with her a lot, but make sure she's getting some kind of physical activity. you could also try to fool her into thinking shes getting more food than she is by feeding her food in very small portions very often.

What you need to do is get a cat food that has no CORN. All the grocery store foods are 2/3 corn (I have been checking prices/ingredients recently) Corn is used to fattening slaughter animals that usually have less than a two-year life span.

Your cats needs a food with quality protein and then she won't be hungry and will stop GAINING weight immediately. In six months to a year the weight will gradually come off. You want foods where the first two ingredients are quality protein, the third will be a filler like rice, oats, millet etc.

Some quality foods and their ingredients:

Solid Gold Katzenflocken: lamb, chicken meal, millet, brown rice, fish meal....

Natural Balance: chicken, chicken meal, brown rice, duck, lamb meal....

CA Natural: just chicken and rice.

Eagle Pack (Holistic Select):duck meal, brown rice, chicken

Brown rice is best because only the hull has been removed, not the bran which is nutritious. Your cat should have two meals a day and you can follow guidelines on the bag. So the first hurdle will be to get her to accept the two meal per day procedure. You can always give her a small plate of cooked chicken to eat for the middle of the day if you feel she is really suffering.

As she becomes better nourished from quality food her appetite will stay the same or be less. She will not gain weight on the cooked chicken, it will satisfy her protein needs well.

Actually, the latest research recommends feeding canned food. A high-protein, low-carb canned food might help your kitty lose weight (Fancy Feast Fish & Shrimp Feast has 0 carbs . . . no interest in the company, yada, yada, yada). The extra water in the food keeps the cat better hydrated and may help prevent some of the lower urinary tract problems that cats are prone to. It is also suspected that the high protein, low carb foods might prevent diabetes in some cats. If this kitty is older, it would be a very good idea to have some bloodwork done to be sure that the kidneys are functioning normally before initiating a high-protein diet. Of course, increasing the exercise as the kitty becomes more fit is also imperative :^)

First of all get her on a weight control cat food then only feed her the recommended amount. The vet should be able to suggest a food that will be better for her and her weight. My cats eat 3 times a day, and they all get the same amount. Approximately 1/3 a cup for each cat 3 times daily.

Restrict your cat's diet immediately! Obesity is the number one cause of malnutrition in pets. It will put so much strain on the body and organs in your cat, a shortened life span will be inevitable.

Your cat is used to getting his way. He's learned that certain behaviors get him certain rewards. You are not doing him a favor by giving in.

No treats, just a low- calorie diet. Your vet can prescribe W/D, a weight loss, maintenance diet that will help your cat shed some pounds.

Most assuredly, your cat won't eat the food right off the bat. I do guarantee you, however, that when he gets hungry enough, he'll eat his new diet. The fast could be a good way for him to begin his new lifestyle:)

Also, try to stimulate your cat to play. It's so good for their bodies and minds.

Good Luck and happy dieting:)

Don't leave out food all the time. Feed a recommended amount twice a day - leave dry food out for like 20 min, then remove it. No table scraps, no wet food. Make sure there's lots of clean water. A regular cat is about 8 pounds, I think.

Simple, my cat was 20lbs when I got him, he's now down to 17lbs. We stopped giving canned food(unless its diet) and feed him high quality low calorie food like iams. Give him small amounts through out the day and entice him to play. Catnip and honey suckel toys are great! I also make George the cat jump up onto a 3' high cat house to get his food, any extra activity will help good luck!
