Or does this just mean it was cooked wrong? Is there anything that can be done to fix it? (Plz help, I think I've screwed up dinner!)

Chewy is a texture, not a flavor. If it tastes good and no one complains, then forget about. Life's to short to worry about old rice

You need to cook brown rice longer than conventional rice.

I'm not exactly sure how long, but you should test cook a batch and test the grains every so often to try and find the right length of time.

no its not maybe when you cook it again let cook slow and longer it takes brown rice longer to cook than white rice. then it won taste so chewy. it will be just right

It should be firm like regular white rice. Unless you are using a sauce with it , I would make a fresh batch and not cook it as long.

was it instant or 1 minute rice- make sure you let it simmer after you turn the heat off for a few minutes - no it should be fluffy and light.
