Be prepared to give intelligent argument to their objections. Stay calm and rational. KNOW exactly why you don't want to follow their religion an longer. If you are not going to follow any religion, be certain you can justify your decision. Be respectful. Do not react to anger/threats that may be presented to you. Don't over-react yourself. I have a feeling this is important to you, so be very certain that you can present your case reasonably and rationally before you say one word. Be certain that you are not retaliating or rebelling against your parents.

I didn't say anything for a good while. Then a relative of mine finally confronted me about it (imagine the humor of it, considering that I was already middle-aged by that point) and I admitted that, yes, I'd converted years ago. She was pretty highly upset at first, but got over it, and now even gently teases me about it. In my case, I'd converted to a certain denomination as a child (by my own decision), and then was adopted by people of another faith and forced to adopt their religion. In adulthood, I just quietly converted back.

dear darling parents, i mean that {if you do} , i have now become the adult / independant human you spawned with your love and god, and having travelled thus far, which i know is not so very, tho with the learning and experience you have enabled for me, i have reached this unstrong point, though one of volition and motivation, which i feel sure with your faith in love and god{insert apprporiate type} is one which, love being as it is about freedom, you'll be pleased for me to have to touched and now be leaving from - so i do so, and i hope so big time {if you do} to see you some time, tho' not necessarily soon. much love, bye

PS if you need to talk about a thing in particular, we will do it and i'll do it when you say and i can do, with respect so much to you, , tho i cant right now as i'm moving my stuff out and the lorry's waiting -

Actions speak louder than words.

Show them--WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING--how much of a better person you have become because of your new-found faith... And you will see the fruits of your labor.

Peace be with you!
