Malamutes make wonderful companions. They are safe with new babies providing you first of all get a puppy with a good temperament, from parents who both have good temperaments. Then, the second factor is the way you raise and train them. No very small child should ever be left unsupervised with any dog. Both dog and child need to be taught how to treat each other.

I hope you realize that malamutes are also a very high energy level breed requiring a lot of daily exercise. Also, since they're a northern breed they shed a lot and need a lot of brushing.

I have 2 malamute/huskies. They are very loyal, and playful. It's not so much the breed of dog, as the individual dog and how they have been raised that would determine if they were safe to be with children. In the case of my dogs, I would be concerned that they might want to play with the baby, and being 80 lbs., they could hurt the baby without intedning to. When the dog is first introduced to a baby, make sure that you (or the dog's owner, if it's not your dog) is in the room. And if the dog tries to do anything more than sniff or lick the baby, be ready to pull the dog away, hit it's nose and tell it "NO"

its not the breed but the people who breed them that determine how they act. A dog would be safe with babies.....you should have precautions anyway just in case..malamutes are great pets! So fluffy and graceful such sweet hearts too! my mom has one. She is so genital
