There is this soccer tryout for a rep team this saturday, and im not sure if i should go. There are some people on the team who I dont really like mostly because of their personality, but im sure that if i did try out i would make the team easily. The problem is, I am a minority and I do and did get discriminated upon many times. This makes me very nervous when going to a tryout especially when there are people there who I know will make fun of me behind my back or will say something stupid and make me feel bad. This is my main problem as I am scared of what other people think of me, and therefore i wont play as well or I would become too scared to even show up since i dont want to face these people. Im just really scared of what people say about me and I dont really take it well. Its like i can hear them whispering and laughing behind my back as I play.

So should i go to this tryout and how could i overcome this fear of what people think of me?

don't pay attention to what other people think, you know they're wrong. if you let it get to you, you'll be giving them just what they want. and about the teammates you don't like, don't pay attention to that, did you know that a lot of the time people work with people they don't really like, for example, in professional sports, police, firefighters, and in the military. it's about what how well they play, not what happened behind the scenes, so go out there and play hard, and here's one more piece of advice, if they talk about you while you're on the field, get angry, harness that anger to play harder.

Dude! Get OVER it! You feel that you are good enough to try out. Right?
The reps are looking for a good player or two. Right? HE doesn't care if you are a minority, good looking, black, green, yellow - he's just looking for a superb athlete and the 'other' people who may not want you to make the team are dumb and stupid idiots. They're like big fish in a tiny little pond! Who cares what the idiots think? They're idiots!
While they may be making fun of you behind your back you could be doing your best and making the team. While they're whispering you could be showing everybody just how good you really are! It would serve them right!
Nervous, eh? OK, calling it nervous will take energy away from you. Excited is exactly the same feeling as nervous but it GIVES you energy, so please call it exited! Let the others who don't like you watch as you do your best. They'll eat their laughter!

Good luck Saturday!

look, there's more to life than what those people are saying. I use to be like u, being scared of what others think, self concious. I wanted to try out for this team, i was so scared that the team would not accepct me. We were infront of the whole school, our gym was filled- I was nervous. Then i thought to myself, the point of a team is teamwork. The only way we're going to do that is by accepting everyone there. Don't worry what others think of you, if soccer is what u want to so, then go and do it.

If you enjoy soccer, I say go for it. The worst thing that's going to happen is that you find out it's not really for you, and you end up quitting. However, I have a hunch that you're not giving these people a chance to accept you for who you are. Give it a shot, show them your love for soccer, and I can almost gaurantee you that you'll have the time of your life and make some great friends. Good luck!!

You should go for it. Some people are ignorant and immature. From the sounds of it I think your in school and if you are my only advice is make memories yourself and ignore ignorant people because they're the ones that will lose in the future. In my experiance it's the people who are stuck up ignorant snobs in school that end up working at McDonalds at 30 and the foreigners and the nerds who make it big. Don't let whats happening now get to you. !!!!! Please just go for it

Go to the try out hon and do what you do best and blow them out of the water...your confidence in itself will win you respect and if not their loss...do not let anyone keep you from your passion and something you do well...go for it!
