More than likely you are running too forward on your feet. It sounds like you are running directly on the balls of your feet. You might need to slow the speed down to ensure that you are running properly which is rolling up through the entire foot. The soreness is a deep bruise on the muscles and possible the bone. Also make sure you are wearing proper running shoes. Shoes that are meant for running, not just Over The Counter types that are made more for style.

Plantar fasciists.
Stay off the tread mill till it heals. Roll your foot over a frozen can of beans to stretch and sooth it.
Next time, stretch your foot by pushing against a wall before running. Wear shoes with good arch support like Gel Asics.

Well, if you think it gives you pain, stop running and start to walk. You need to do some warming up before starting to run on it. Warming up can help the muscles around the foot and ankle to stretch which I believe won't give so much pain. Try it!

i use an elliptical. Treadmills are tough on the knees. As far as your sore foot. It maybe the way you are landing on & off the platform. Suggest better shoes.

Yes, you could be trying to hard, by walking too fast. Give yourself time to warm up. It took me several weeks to grow accustom to walking on the darn thing to begin with. lol So slow down, remember distance is far better than speed.
