Simply put, if it goes against God it is a sin. No one is perfect. Here is an example for you:
Say you have to walk across a cow pasture to get where you are going, and it is a long, long way across the pasture. Well you know what grazes in the pasture right? Cattle and other beasts is what. You are going to step in something before you get across, and you know it is going to happen sooner or later. Well the world is like that also, and you are going to step into sin sometime in your life, but then you need to ask for forgivness, and repent of what you have done. (stepped in) Christians are not perfect, just forgiven. Once you are saved that does not give you the right to sin because you want to, but you are going to, as it is human nature. Hope you understand what I am trying to tell you.

We are always living in a state of Sin, that is in opposition to God because we always put ourselves first. Even our good deeds are constructed from sin because our motives and intentions are for some form of personal gain whether it be respect, self-righteousness, pride, power, or whatever.
An act of sin would be defined from a third person's point of view. For instance, paying your tithe is not a sin and appears as a good deed to others, but everyone does it out of Sin because they do it for themselves.
A sin is something that is in opposition to the Law which is written in hearts and in our minds. Some may be less obvious than others, in such cases one should consult the Bible, but typically I would say that you know something was a sin if Jesus wouldn't have done it. Just ask yourself what would Jesus do.

If you have brains enough to ask that question you know if you are committing a sin or not. Your conscious will be one guide. Your guilt feelings after you think you committed a sin will be another.
Tempartion alone is not a sin. It is when we succumb to tempation that is the "SIN".

ask the holy spirit that Jesus said he would leave with us,this where you should ask that question. a sin is anything that stands between you and the holy ghost.anything that delays your spiritual life. something that takes your mind off what is truly real. which is following the spirit of gods guidance in your life.this spirit lives in your heart and mind and body.if you but will except it into you. the only unpardonable sin is to denie and reject the spirit into your self. ask the spirit for the answer. there is a very low quiet voice that will answer you if you will but listen, knock and the door will be opened up to you. we are as children . go to god with the faith of one .

All people are sinners and we all make mistakes as we go through life. Those of us who know Jesus as our savior understand that He (Jesus) was the only person to walk on this earth sinless. When we go against the will of God, commit sin we feel that it wasn't right. That is the Holy Sprit talking to us. If you don't get this feeling than chances are that you do not know Jesus as your savior.

Just ask a believer. You're always sinning, even if you brush your teeth. For some reason, the believer doesn't sin, but has to point out the supposed sins of others.

There are two answers that I know of: Anything we do that causes us to be out of fellowship with God is a sin. We, as brothers and sisters together in Christ all have the spirit of God in us. So, when we are "out of fellowship" with one of the "brethren", we are out of fellowship with God. AND if we believe that to do a certain thing it is to sin, but we do it anyway.....it is a sin. Don't forget "He's faithful and just to forgive us our sin.........."
