I saw this on tv the other day. This may be long so get ready.

You take a tomato cage or whatever that thing is that you are supposed to put in the ground so they can wrap up around it as they grow. You take and score the vertical pieces of wire right before the third horizontal wire from the bottom. Then you snap them off. You should be left with two horizontal wires and I believe 4 vertical wires (which would give you three sides). The wires that are sticking up above the second horizontal wire get pushed down into the middle so that you will have a place to kinda hook your bulb and socket. If you want to you can leave the horizonal wires as they are OR take and kinda pull the top one up on each of the three sections to that it looks a wave or a scallop going around and also do this at the bottom but pull down (note that where it is welded together it may snap but all you need is a piece of clear plastic tubing from a hardware store and put one half of the wire in each end) So then you can take a thin material of your choice (they had some thing where they made their own paper with pictures but I cant remember) and cut it to fit each of the three sides. You can do each panel seperately or one piece that wraps all the way around. You can glue this or use very strong two sided tape. Once you have the material all the way around then get some strings of beads and glue those along the bottom and get some ribbon if you want to cover each vertical line where they may be a seem showing. You can also put some ribbon around the top wires. Then you take a socket that already has a cord attached and use the inside wires to hold onto it and you have a hanging lamp shade.

I know that may have been confusing so let me see if I can find the link to show you better.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT HANG A SCARF OVER A LIGHT BULB! I'm sure you are not that stupid but you up there may need a lesson in fire safety...

Rather than make a lamp shade, how about personalizing an inexpensive, plain white one? You can cover them with fabric (match your curtains or comforter) or wallpaper. Add trim that you can buy from a fabric store. Use stencils.
