But, she loves to eat rotting fish on the beach where we go every morning......

It's been told to me by a veterinarian that dogs eat grass to make themselves vomit. They are having upset stomachs. Now, it's all possible that the stomach is upset because your dog is allergic to its feed. Maybe that's why it's going for the rotten fish as well, to make themselves sick. Is you dog having diarrhea as well as the vomitting? Try switching to a different kind of feed that your dog hasn't tried - a duck & potatoe, or salmon & rice. Also, you can try giving one Pepcid AC to your dog a half hour before he eats to help settle the stomach too.

Good luck, I hope you find an answer and that your doggy gets to feeling better soon. - and keep him away from the rotting fish!

:o)

You tend to find that dogs and many other carnivorous mammals will eat grass or other such plant life to aid digestion or cure an upset stomach. The only problem is, sometimes this cure doesn't work and the dog is sick anyway. my dogs eat grass on a regular basis when out walking, sometimes just for the extra vitamins. My Puppy tries the grass cure trick often, but if fails dramatically when you've eaten bits of plastic previously. This results in a multi-coloured yawn.

Dogs commonly eat grass, and there are several explanations that have been offered for this behavior. One, wild canids (e.g., wolves and fox) eat all of an animal when they catch it. Since they eat many herbivores (plant-eating animals), they end up eating a lot of grasses and plants that were in the intestines of these animals. In addition, they have been known to eat certain berries and other plant material. Dogs then, may eat grass because, in reality, it is a normal part of their diet.

Many times, dogs will vomit after eating grass. Did they eat grass to make them vomit? Or did they vomit because they ate grass? It is a mystery, but it seems that some dogs may eat vegetation when they have an upset stomach.

The third reason - they just like it. Some dogs have certain species of grass or plant material that they will search out and eat. We know a beagle who can pick raspberries faster than his owner.

In any case, grass eating is basically a normal behavior, and is not of concern unless your dog does it excessively.

dogs do eat grass or other greens when they have an upset stomach. And then since they had an upset stomach to begin with, they tend to vomit. I would try to prevent the dog from eating rotten fish, that could very well be what's causing her stomach problems. If she won't eat dry dog food, try pouring a little vegetable oil on it, it won't hurt her, and will help her coat be shiny. And if she still won't eat dry food, try feeding her canned food. If this not eating continues, it would also be a good idea to talk to your vet.

The vomiting after eating grass is normal. Dogs eat this grass because something is bothering their stomac. Maybe a fishbone? Or worms? Or just something that was off? If this is only one or two days, don't worry about it. But if it continues, your dog might need a check up at the vet....

dogs usually eat grass because they have uneasy stomach. Maybe you shouldn't let her eat the rotting fish. her appetite should come back when she feels better. When they eat grass, that's usually what happens, they barf it back up. My dog loves the beach also...but she usually pisses on everything that used to be living......or still is. Her favorite ones to piss on are jellyfish.

It's natural for dogs to eat grass, mine does to. I think it's a canine way of cleansing their digestive system, hence they're promptly sick afterwards. Dogs instinctively know what's good or bad for them. I shouldn't worry to much, like I said, most if not all dogs have a habit of doing this.
