Various IQ tests measure a standard deviation with different number of points. Thus, when an IQ score is stated, the standard deviation used should also be stated. A result of 124 in a test with a 24-point standard deviation corresponds to a score of 115 in a test with a 15-point deviation.

If you look at the curve, you are slightly above the normal (majority of people - who are at 100).

However, you are by no means a genius. I was 155 at 15 and 162 at 16. Haven't taken one this year, though. The one I was given at 15 was given in person, not an online one, btw.

Basically, think of it this way:
"mild mental retardation: IQ 50–55 to 70"

However, here you can compare your IQ to the estimated IQs of common geniuses:

"Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Austria Composer 165"
"Einstein , regarded as the prototype for a genius, may "only" have had just above 160 ."

117 is very good. You are above average. If this was an online IQ test, I would forget about it, because you really need a professional to test you in person for accurate results. If this WAS a test taken with a professional, I would take a couple more with other doctors and use the average of the scores. Test scores tend to vary, even though your IQ (theoretically) never changes.

Be glad you aren't at genius level...as you can see from some of these answers, a lot of highly intelligent peope are also highly arrogant.

Standardized IQ scores have a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 10 throughout the population. That means that the vast majority of people will fall into the 90 - 110 range. IF you took a standardized test and IF it was administered properly (i.e., not the on-line variety) a score of 117 indicates you are in the second standard deviation from the mean which puts you in approximately the top 5% of those who take the test.

Sorry to dissatisfied you, yet... i'm assuming you took an internet IQ attempt considering the fact which you suggested you took an IQ attempt for adults. in case you paid to have one achieved, you will possibly get carry of a baby's IQ attempt. those tests are very well-known and that's approximately all which would be suggested approximately them. you will desire to work out a psychologist. There, you are able to time table a genuine IQ attempt and get carry of an precise score. One on line IQ attempt provide you with a score of 117, yet another will say a hundred, and yet yet another would desire to declare one hundred thirty. So communicate on your mothers and fathers and notice in case you will get one arranged in case you have an activity. ;-)

You should disregard the IQ test because its unreliable. I've taken a few in my time, once I had an I.Q of 128 and then I had an I.Q of 107 in a different one (???)

Also I.Q tests are bias in favour of maths and language. Therefore it doesn't measure other forms of intelligence, artistic skills, social skills, imagination, common sense, memory retention, athletic ability etc.

Basically how can you take something as diverse as the human brain, and think you've got it sussed by giving it a number? The i.q test my give a basic idea as to your abilities, but never should it be used to say people are 'better' than other people.

The average IQ is 100. At 117, you are two standard deviations above normal. This equates to saying you are smarter than roughly 70% of the population.

About average for kids who do well in school. You are doing fine, there is no need to worry about what I Q you have, there will always be those with much higher, and sadly those with much lower. IQ says little about how well you will do, it is drive and determination that make it in life. There are those with IQ's of 140-160 who live on the streets, and those with IQ's of 100 who are very successful. Stick to what you start, study and do well in everything..as well as you can do..Take pride in doing the best you can and you will succeed. I wish you the very best of luck in life.

I don't have a lot of faith in IQ tests. they rely on people thinking a particular way when there are so many ways of thinking and so many styles/ types of intelligence. Not sure if 117 is a good grade but good for you if it is!
