Over the weekend, my husband brought home an injured bird and we tried our best to help it and save it. Unfortunately, it died the next afternoon and left me devastated. My husband said not to feel sad because we tried our best, and it wasn't in our hands. Only Allah could have saved it if He wanted. He said since it is Ramadan, we may get extra reward for trying to save it, is this true?

Salaam Alaikum,
All acts of charity are magnified in thier rewards during the blessed month. Our paying of Zakat, our feeding of the poor and even he acts of charity that the Prophet (PBUH) encouraged.

Recall that the Hadiths state that even a smile can be a sadaqa, so the logical answer is that you do recieve extra benefit and spiritual reward for even the non-monitary charity given in Ramadan.

Saving a small bird is not a fruitless act. There was a hadith about an impure woman (some say she was a prostitute, others that she was just sinful) who recieved complete forgiveness and entrance to paradise from the simple act of giving water to a thirsty dog before drinking for herself. It was not that the dog was special in any way, it was the high level of compassion in her heart for this poor animal suffering in the heat.

May Allah reward you for all your charity and may he accept your worship this Ramadan.

Salaam

Whether you get an extra reward or not, that was very nice of you to do. Not many people would take in an injured animal (bird) and try to save it. I agree with your husband about your feelings, don't feel bad, death is natural, it was the birds time to leave this world and only GOD or in your words ALLAH could have saved him. Instead of feeling devastated, feel happy for it because evolution will take his spirit and he will reincarnate as a higher species. Peace and Love your way.

Well its not about personal opinion or what other people think, whether you get a reward or not, i don't know. I know virtually nothing about Ramadan, but if its part of your religon, it could be true. But pat yourself on the back cause you didn't leave the bird lying on a street. (Next time you should call a proffessional, they'll know what to do with an injured bird.)

I don't know about religious rewards but you should feel proud that you tried to save a helpless creature. Next time you find an injured bird, check to see if there is a bird rescue group in your town. Phoenix has one and my daughter has brought 2 birds there and they lived and were fine.

Animals are Allah's creatures and are to be respected. We are told to eat only zabiha meat because it is the most humane and clean way to sacrifice an animal and you are recognizing that it is Allah's creature by the blessing before killing.

What you did was a good thing and inshallah you will be rewarded.

I wanted to make sure that you know for sure the bird was injured, and not ill.

If it was sick, make sure you thoroughly disinfect anything that had contact with the bird. It could have been carrying something (west Nile, salmonella, etc.) that could make you sick.

On the religious aspects, while I am of a different fair, I believe strongly that the Creator looks kindly on those who take care of His creation.

Yes! All good deeds count extra during Ramadan. That should not be your intention while doing the good deed, it should be out of the kindness of your heart ♥
