How would you compare them? I'm thinking of switching to the new X3, but wonder about speed, ease of use, learning curve.

I have used both, for many years.
I prefer word perfect, always have. It does seem to me to have more features and potential, and I prefer the interface.
However, MS Office is the business standard, so I have used it a lot as well. Even if you choose WP, do yourself a favor in knowing Office well also.

I love my corel wordperfect 12. I can't really compare them because I've never really used MS Office. But you can do a lot of wp stuff with the perfect expert and specially features. I'm getting ready to upgrade to WP 13

I have used both, and find that WP is more powerful, but Office is more user friendly \ intuitive. If you aren't a power user, Office is likely just fine, but if you do fancy word processing and paper presentations, you might find WP to be more flexible.

That said, Office is more commonly used in most of corporate America, and I have found that knowing it well has been an asset.

It is great! It is lighter (so it is faster) and cost me a third of MS.. it also opens office documents and saves in .doc as well.

As usual, Miscrosoft is banking on ignorance and inertia to keep its popularity
