I do not know what kind of hair you have. As an African American woman, my hair is textured. However, it also does tend to be a bit wavy. All African Americans have various hair textures. If you hair is like mine, you should never put gel or anything in your hair that will make it hard. Another good rule of thumb is not to dye your hair too much and never dye it on your on. Always have a licensed professional do it. I find that my hair remains soft from simply taking care of it. It's that easy! I don't use any weird products in it or wear any strange hairstyles. I normally use some leave in conditioner after it's washed then I'll apply either hair lotion or hot oil. Never use hair grease. It just clogs up pores, and your hair will not grow. Another good thing to remember is not to use blow dryers on your hair too often, flat irons, or curling irons. If you hair is very textured, it will damage it a lot easier than most. Also, put your hair up every night, don't let friends play in it, wash it 2 to 3 times a week, and get it trimmed on a regular basis. I hope this helps. I know how important having nice hair is.

Your diet is the start. It can take months to see the result, but eating well makes for great hair.

Look for shampoo which says "Anti-breakage", or "Anti-Snap". These will help keep the ends of long hair from breaking. Split ends make long hair look bad fast.

Stay away from shampoo that offers a quick fix to damaged hair (Pantene). Those generally use wax to fill in the stands to make them appear healthy. They clog your scalp, and can cause your growth to slow down.

Good luck!

Go to the health food store to start off. And get Flax seed oil, and silica gel. It works marvels and its natural. I've been on it for 3 years, and can tell a world of a difference. :)

They have certain vitamins specified for hair, skin, and nails... however, simple solutions could be drinking more water and eating more vegetables. I know our mothers tell us that eating our vegetables will help us grow... and it's actually true! Haha. Good luck!
