Actually, I want to get two in a couple of months. I've always wanted one, and now that I'm moving, I'll have room for a kitten, or two. What are the friendliest kind of cats? Should I get two males, two females or one male and one female? Also, how much do they cost, if I were to buy them and where should I get them? Or should I adopt them from a shelter, and how much does that cost?

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned I want them to be inside cats.

I would say get two females. They don't spray urine on your walls. Get them from a shelter, there are so many cats that need homes. Also decide if they are going to be inside cats or outside.

The friendliest kind of cat will be one that has been raised around humans. Cats of any type who have a lot of socialization when they're young will almost always be friendly.

Some breeds are more stand-offish than others, but since it sounds like you don't really have a strong preference for a purebred cat, you're probably better off getting a non-purebred. They're cheaper, and easier to come by.

Getting two is a good idea! Two cats will often bond strongly & they will keep each other from getting bored. When you have just one cat, and she decides it's time to play wrestle at 3 AM -- not so cool. If you are getting them fixed (and trust me, you will want to get them fixed - dealing with males spraying or females going into heat is not fun at all), it won't matter whether you get 2 males, 2 females, or one of each.

Shelter cats usually have a small charge ($10-$30), plus another charge which covers the neutering fee. Check Petfinder (below) to find shelters and fees in your area. You can also watch your local paper, kittens are often listed in the classifieds for free or for very little cost - although you have to be careful that barn kittens aren't sick or feral. Purebred cats start at about $150 and go up from there, and should be bought from a reputable breeder.

Good luck!

I agree with everything every one has been saying. I took in a stray that was pregnant and only gave them away in twos. Male or female doesn't matter if they're from the same litter. The shelters that provide spay and neutering, shots, and wellness checks are the best. They really aren't very expensive as some have suggested. $10-$40 maybe. The news paper is also a great way to find kittens. Just make sure that they aren't wild or sickly. Older cats need homes too.! Be sure that you have 15 to 20 years to love you new babies. Vet checks yearly, and never let them outside! Always spay and neuter. Donate money wherever you can!

A lot of the time people have cat's who have a litter of kittens and they give away the kitties for free. That's how we got ours, we found an ad in a newspaper. But the thing is, you can't be too picky with the type of breed you want, our cat is a domestic short hair cat. I hear rag dolls are the friendliest types of cats but the thing is, they are extrememly friendly, so you will never have time to yourself! I is also pretty sweet of you to think of adopting from a shelter. Often animals in shelters have been rescued from bad situations and they really need someone to love them, but I'm not sure how much this will cost. I am guessing between 1 or 2 hundred dollars. Same goes for buying a cat from a pet shop. If you want to get two cats, it's best to get two of the same gender. I prefer females because males CAN be more agressive. One of my cousin's had a male cat who would urinate all over his basement! If you want to get a male and a female, you would have to get them both neutred and spayed to make sure they don't produce a large litter. Then you may have trouble getting rid of your own kittens! To get cats spayed/neutered usually ranges between 3 to 4 hundred dollars. Good luck, and I hope you find two cats that love you and you love them back.

Cats aren't toys! They live 15 - 20 yrs. Are you prepared to make that commitment? If you are not, don't get them. It's not fair to give a home to an animal & then dump the animal when it's become inconvienent to keep them.

Cats aren't cheap. to adopt from a shelter is around $100. But that includes wellness check, shots, and nuetering which if you brought them in would run in the $$$. Food is not cheap, nor is all of the stuff you are going to get destroyed by them while they learn the rules. If they get sick, vets aren't cheap. Every year they need vaccinations & check ups.

If you are prepared to give them a forever home get them from a shelter. & make sure they are nuetered. Picking out litter mates seems to be best in ensuring they get along. I haven't noticed any difference in temperment between males &/or females. They all have their unique personalities. Some are sweet, some are standoffish, some are a bit neurotic, some are hyper, some are lap cats....

The most important thing is that you and the cats click. Other than that plenty of love should make sure your cats are happy. They are the sweetest and most loving animals.

Nueter/spay your pets!

Yes, it's better for you to get two kittens, especially from the same litter. You'd be better off getting them from little babies than already grown. They'll learn your 'parenting' style better if you start with them.

Usually the cats from the rescue league or shelters are a little more difficult as far as someone (not always) has abused them. It'll cost around $50 apiece.

Females are easiest to deal with but, unless you don't EVER let them outside, they'll get pregnant within 6 months or so. Spaying can cost a pretty penny but sometimes some vets offices will have a special discount day and it's a lot more cost effective that way.

Siamese are very friendly to their owners but vicious to stray animals and *some* people. They do tend to cost more. Don't focus on purebreads because they *have* to have a certain amount of inbreeding to keep the blood pure.

Make sure you take into account what length their hair is - it's hard to keep a house clean if it's a long-hair and will show up on EVERYTHING...especially your clothes. lol

If you plan on introducing ANY dogs what-so-ever, make sure you do it VERY early or they'll flip whenever a dog comes near...usually.

i know a lot of people from CC4C, i help foster cats and i just adopted one this past weekend. You should adopt two kittens of the opposite sex because they tend to get along better if they're different sex. It cost 120 dollars for a kitten and only 80 dollars for the second. They are all spayed or neutered, they already have their shots and health check ups. You should adopt cats because many adorable ones need a home. If you get one from the shelter, its fine too (since they usually only keep them for 5 days and then put them to sleep. The little kittens go first. That is really sad. So please hurry. Shelters usually cost about 75 but those kittens usually haven't gotten fixed nor have they gotten health check ups...but you can always take them to a vet. Any kitten (especially feral) may be a bit wild (it really depends) but it only takes 2 to 3 days to tame them with lots of love and petting. Kittens are more easy to tame. The breed doesn't really matter. I really like the ones with snow paws and snow neck and stomach with other fur colors elsewhere. I saw a really cute calico kitten....her foster named the cat after me. So, please do hurry, there are so many cats waiting for your love. Feel free to ask more cat questions.

Most cats are friendly as adults. If you are going to have two, I would suggest females, males tend to fight each other. I would adopt from a shelter, that keeps them from being put to sleep when they aren't given a home. And most places have them fixed before you adopt them. The cost is any where from $10 to $50 .One thing you should definitely know is that kittens are hell on the furniture, Be prepared to replace living room suit when you have them mature enough!

Try to get kittens from a shelter- like the other person said, there are plenty of cats that need love. Just make sure they are young kittens. Older cats, once freed from their little cage at a shelter sometimes will tend to run away and search for their previous owner. Always spay/nueter.

You can find good kitties with shots ready to go from the animal shelter. Sometimes there are litter mates who don't want to be separated.
Keep cats inside always. Too many dangers outside, and they won't know the difference.
