Looks like it went to 60hp in 1971 with the introduction of the dual port 1600cc and stayed at that hp till 1973.

And for the other answers the 40hp motor was a 1200cc not a 1600cc. As well VW was not using Porsche motors in there cars in 1969, nor any other year. While Porsche and VW did research with each other, VW made their own motors.

The best way to find out is in the back of the haynes manuals or chiltons found in the engine section. its so hard to really know the horsepower beacause it changes almost every year according to the manual. good luck!!!

I think they were still at 40. Possible it was bumped all the way up to maybe 50, not sure.

VW, I know in '69, had a porche engine in them. You might could ask a VW dealer about it.

single carb is about 38to45 - the dual is about 70.
