I agree. It is commendable if a male is willin to be in that role. A lot of time ego gets in the way with the woman making the money etc.... If the dad really does those things that a stay at home parent does then no one should be looking down on them.
I've run across dad's though that say they are stay at home dads but all they do is watch the kids (barely) and did I mention that they have school 6 hours of that day. If they are taking on household responsibilities then they are doing thier part. otherwise they need to earn some money.

I don't believe it is the hardest job on the planet, but I think being a stay at home dad is ok if you can afford. Typically the man is looked at as being the bread winner. Sometimes old stereotypes are hard to break. My wife and I both work and we split the chores. No big deal. Each month we change chores so neither of us feel the other has more or less to do.

I think if you are able to stay at home and your wife doesn't mind then it is a wonderful thing. Who cares what other people think, The children are the ones who will benefit from one parent being there and they not be placed in daycare. Good for you for doing it. Dads are just as capable of taking care of the children, the house, the cooking, etc as women. God bless you for stepping up to the plate. Just for the record there are some people who have an issue with stay at home moms also, so you cant please the world, so don't try, please your family and don't worry about anyone else.

Ask children who are latchkey kids and they'll tell you that they will give anything to come home to a parent. Any parent willing to stay home and take care of their kids while the other works is a marvelous soul provided they take their stay at home role seriously to add to the harmony of the family. Nothing like coming home after a hard day and the house is a mess, the kids cranky, and the parent ranting a litany of complaints. Many parents would love to have this type of situation, one at home with or for the kids but life has gotten too expensive to even consider the idea.

I have first hand experience with this. Be careful! Many women and men think this is such a perfect solution, its so wonderful (and of course, hard work is)... but PLEASE make sure its what you both really want.
My situation with the Stay At Home Dad turned ugly and we ended up in divorce. I began to feel used, and he started getting very needy... it was like the role reversal bit us on the ***.
We stopped being able to afford it... and suddenly instead of him finding work, he just got more and more hostile, staying up online all night and having online affairs.
I left him, cut him off financially... and it wasn't until he was forced to get a job did he get one.
Now I find myself attracted to the very masculine MAN type of guy that would never dream of staying at home... hahaha... at least I know myself well now.
Good luck.

Wow, I totally agree with you. Sometimes the children are far better off with their Dad staying home instead of the Mom. It is a 24/7 job.

Hell ya. Whether it is the man or the woman who stays at home I give them all the credit in the world for doing it. You are right about it being the hardest, most under-rated and of course under paid job anyone could ever have. Stand tall and be proud

My hat is off to any Dad who takes the responsibilities of being the stay at home parent. It is definitely the hardest job of all...plus there is no immediate pay.
Anyone who looks down on this is ridiculously uninformed!
