You can request transcripts of the year(s) in question by filing out form 4506-T or by calling 1-800-829-1040. A Tax ReturnTranscript shows the information from a return as it was filed. Getting a transcript is free and will be mailed two weeks after they've received your request.
If you need an actual copy of your return you can fill out form 4506. It costs about $39 and should you should receive them within 60 days.
Also, you can get a copy of your return by stopping at your local IRS office. This link:http://www.irs.gov/contact/index.html will help you find an office near you.

You can't access them on-line, but you can get copies of you tax returns, W-2's, and 1099's from the IRS though.

Anything else, you have to keep your own records.

The IRS doesn't keep *any* tax records on-line. If you didn't keep copies of them yourself, you're probably out of luck. You can ask the IRS to send you copies, but they may very well not have them. They *can* provide you with some simple figures from your tax history (amount of gross and net income per year you filed a return, and the amount of tax paid, and the amount of any refund or tax owed), but getting copies of your full returns is likely impossible. And you have to submit a written request to get that info, and it will come in the mail -- NOT online.

You can't view the records on-line. You can download a form from the following link to order a copy of your return by mail. Transcripts of the information on your return or free. Actual copies of the return cost $39.00.

A Enrolled Agent or CPA that is signed up for E-Services can have you sign a power of attorney. With that he can view your tax information for the last three years. The actual form will not be on-line but the data will be there.
