I apologize in advance to all religions not founded by war cheitans, because, some religions suck much more than others, but because one religions sucks so bad, and is so miserably violent, unfortunately, it does put all religion under the microscope.

Anyway, many futurists see a time when all religion is gone. I have no doubt it will happen either, so long as we survive religion, or one religion in particular.

Have you ever read about people from an older civilzation and felt pity on them for growing up in such a limited enironment? Well...because we still live in a day when religion still exists...and we know it will die in the future...doesnt it suck that we live in this time instead of a religion free time?

The only one I feel pity for is you. I hope you find the love that can only be found in Christ.

You are absolutely right concerning the future of religion. And, yes, the world will be a better place when religion's influence on society is greatly minimized. However, there are many countries in the world today that one can go to where religion has a greatly diminished role in the society.

Social progress and a decline in religious fervor appear to go hand in hand. The most advanced countries with the highest standards of living, such as in Northern Europe, tend to have the least percentage of people who attend church and/or consider themselves religious. In many of these countries, religion is almost reduced to the level of a primitive relic, not anything the educated could seriously consider. On the other hand, the most religious countries in the world tend to also be the most impoverished and oppressive.

Some of the people who have responded negatively to your question would suggest that a world without religion would be the world of Mao, Pol Pot, or Stalin. In other words, a world dominated by a repressive ideology that results in barbarism and genocide. Oddly enough, this looks a lot like the world of the religious zealots. Obviously, those answerers have failed to recognize that the problem with their assessment is that they are still stuck in "this or that" thinking: Jesus and Civilization OR atheism and mass murder. This kind of dualistic thinking typifies both the religious fanatic and the ideological extremist. They can't imagine a world where atheism AND civilization co-exist. But that is the case in Northern European countries, such as the Netherlands, or any of the Scandinavian countries where religion has been so marginalized that these countries are for all practical purposes, atheist. Interestingly enough, all of these countries have much higher standards of living than one will find in the US.

We're going toward a world like Star Trek: TNG. Religion will die and people will look back on it and be thankful that they live in a world governed by reason and logic. Think of all the man power that people waste going to church every Sunday or praying or spending their money tithing or building a church. All that time and money could be spent on so many more worthwhile things. I hope I'm alive to see a decline in religion.

i pity you and your futurists greatly. you have no idea. there is one and only God and He alone knows the time of the ending of the world. NO man knows and neither do other christians. yes religion in the past has failed terribly but they were human. all humans are destined to fail but that is why we rely on someone more powerful that us to help us. i do not want to be rude or appear to force this on you. you have the right to not accept though it be your downfall.

you talking about atheism - stalin, pol pot, mao, kim jong II, etc or someone else with the highest human kill tallies ? It is not likely that religion will ever disappear but simply that superstition will reappear in different forms once true religion is subdued.

20-33Who in the world do you think you are to second-guess God? Do you for one moment suppose any of us knows enough to call God into question? Clay doesn't talk back to the fingers that mold it, saying, "Why did you shape me like this?" Isn't it obvious that a potter has a perfect right to shape one lump of clay into a vase for holding flowers and another into a pot for cooking beans? If God needs one style of pottery especially designed to show his angry displeasure and another style carefully crafted to show his glorious goodness, isn't that all right? Either or both happens to Jews, but it also happens to the other people. Hosea put it well:
Romans 9 the message bible.

Yes but frankly I'm more concerned about environmental pollution. Religion isn't going to stop us being able to breathe air or drink water. And as far as I know it doesn't cause cancer. As far as I know.
