I gave my dog liverwurst the other day to teach him tricks -- the vet said that liverwurst is very toxic. Is he right?

Liverwurst is heavy in grease, salt, and preservatives. It's not particularly good for human beings, let alone animals, and can hit a dog's stomach like a bomb.

Personally, I stick to those little training biscuits or a tiny cube of cheese when I work with my dogs. They're easier on the dog's stomach. . .and if you've ever smelled "liverwurst farts" from a German shepherd, you'd know why that was important. ;-)

He's actually wrong. Liver and Liverwurst are okay for dogs as treats in small amounts.

Why are you asking people on here when your highly qualified vet has already told you???
Is it a case of you will keep asking until someone comes up with the answer you want to hear?
LIverwurst is highly fatty, and contains way too much salt which will give him kidney failure. No doubt that isn't what you wanted to hear though.

I am getting ready to try liverwurst for my dog with just enough to hide a powered antibiotic in it. I hope it works because his nose can detect anything when I try to trick him.

My guess is that liverwurst is bad for most living things!

Seriously, go with what your vet says.

Only give your dog food that is made for a dog from the store. Buy regular dog treats. There are a lot of things that can injure or kill a dog or cat that doesn't hurt a person. Just buy him regular dog treats. Good Luck ! :)

Hey bub- I taught my 5yo black lab Bev to stop leash pulling in just 5 days. Easy as pie. My secret to success is the Dog discipline magic system that i found on google.

It does have an awful lot of salt in it anyway- which can be very bad for dogs.
