What are we jealous of? Supersize Big Macs? Illiterate constituency who only speak one language? They must be deluded. But then they also think that they are being invaded (by people who are only looking to work) so who knows?

Hell, I'm American and think it's hilarious!
Especially those types of Americans that have never even left the state, let alone the entire country. Yet they still say "We're the best country in the world!!!" How does one know such thing if they've never even been to another country?

What do you call someone who only speaks one language?
An American

Luckily, I wasn't scared and learned a few. ;)

It's not funny at all..! Because most low-life people in the UK - and that's the vast majority of Brits, by the way...! - ARE hopelessly envious of the USA. Shallow people everywhere usually are.

And the trouble is... this vast majority has enormous spending power - which (in a capitalist world) dictates government policy. So... WE ALL have to put up with the consequences...! - i.e., endure overweight US-style slobs vomiting Star-Spangled Blather between gobfulls of Big-Mac'n'Fries...! - (and would just as soon put a bullet in you as break-wind...!!) - on every street corner...!!!

So you're calling my huge family here illiterate because we all speak 4 different languages? If you think your country is so much better, have you even TRIED to see the world beyond your own empty-headed impressions? BTW, we don't resort to anything like that. We state the plain fact that you won't admit your country is a SHITE HOLE.

Quite, they mostly have a bloated sense of self importance bolstered by a phenomenal ignorance of how the rest of the planet lives. They appear to have the strangest ideas of what the world is like outside of their own borders.
I am sure that many of them think they belong to the only civilized nation on the planet ! When we look upon then as a scary bunch of ignoramuses armed to the teeth with atomic weaponry, dreadfully misguided religious zeal and all the sophistication of a piss in the sink. Peculiar. Very peculiar.
I can think of no-one that I know who would like to be american.

Well some facts. Many Americans speak many languages. In my home my kids grew up with English then two Asian and a Latin language. Not bad. We are long time Yanks many generation. To get into most colleges you must study a foreign language, of your choice. The hot one now is Chinese. Mandarin of course.

With one mil legal green card holder, and half a mil of refugees accepted into the US and the countless illegals. we had 300 million visitors to the USA last year alone.

Every year millions apply for a coveted green card, thousand die trying to get here. We know why. Freedom. Freedom to dress, speak, eat and talk whatever you want whenever and with whomever you want. If you want a Jew to Marry a christian and have buddhist grandkids no one blinks and eye about in the USA.

Still the melting pot and darn happy about it!

Well I am jealous, I used to live in Florida and it was fantastic, great weather(most of the time) great food, nice fun people, good chance to make money, nice houses, great big steaks, low taxes, good policing, great beaches, fantastic nightclubs, really good hospitals, cheap cars, money goes further, no people scrounging off the government, pride in there country, swimming pools, everything cheaper, no EU, more good reasons than bad, If you've never been don't knock it until you've been.

Would that be funny if our children were not all scoffing big macs and KFC's then becoming obese. We have a secure history but as usual we DO follow American culture, its a very sad fact. We have more American fast food outlets in the UK than fish and chip shops, think about that the next time you order a pizza, or take your kids to MacDonalds. Our motorways are getting wider, we import more american cars than ever before, and we are all talking via the international network (Internet) developed by the Americans for use if there was ever a nuclier strike. Microsoft where would we be without Bill Gates, I'll tell you, we would all be using Applemac both by the way USA, lots of computer programs only ever have "English US" options not (to my absolute digust) "English UK" after all that is where the language was founded, hence the name "English". We are not jealous of US culture, we have been overwhelmed by it to the extent that I will wager that the questionaire has, within the last week eaten at an American owned fast food outlet or within the lasthalf hour tyoed a message using the American internet on American software. As for the country, well there has to be a reason why only 10% (approx) of USA citizens own a passport, because they do not need to leave their country, it is huge with a vast range of cultures. Personally, having spent loads of time in the states I am nort jealous of either, I will not allow my children to eat at fast food outlets, they like fruit and enjoy a healthy diet at the moment. But they will soon become outcasts in their teens for not frequenting MacDonalds etc and will buckle to pier pressure, no doubt they will become fat and die early like a vast majority of Americans do, and we as British people do will just what we always do we will moan to ourselves and go "oh well" then we will join the line in the burgur bar. As for thier country, it is breathtaking, ptiy its full of non native obese, foul mouthed, opinionated Americans who think they are the worlds police force.

And whats this stuff Al gore has come out with B*llsh*t, this is the man who refused to sign the Kyoto (spetl wrong) agreement, now making a heart felt documentary about global warming, the US are one of the top 10 polluters of our world, but hey thats OK becuase they rule the kin world. Hypocrites.

One last comment, to all you Americans out there who celebrate inependence day, maybe we let you win because we knew what a mess you would make of that great country. Meet Mr and Mrs Obese MacDonald and thier overweight mentally (he/she needs a therapist) unstable kids. !!! FACT More serial killers in the US, More rpapists, More paedophiles add to that a psycotic president who wants to wage war on the whole world (oh except those who can fight back) and you have the package .... sorry forgot Mickey Mouse. Dont get me started on Walt Disney>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stop press.... best American Maryjane Green good answer, you get my vote.

US citizens generally do have a peculiarly distorted view of themselves, their country and the way they are regarded by the rest of the world. This is hardly surprising considering their education, culture, media and dominant religion supports and promotes these views. Also the fact that less than 15% of the US population own passports and more than half of those that do, make only 1 or less journeys outside the USA during their lifetime's, compounds the problem of their delusional sense of their own importance. On top of this is the fact that most of the rest of the world has little choice but to trade with the USA on their terms as insidious capitalism coupled with over-bearing military might has put the rest of the world in a position of economic deference to the USA - increasing the sense among US citizens who are in receipt of heavily biased information about the outside world, that we all want their stuff.

Personally speaking, the only things that the USA has within its borders that I have any serious desire for is its geography and what is left of its wildlife/ecology.

Fortunately not all Americans (I for one) don't think like that. I love and respect all people and their cultures. What I dislike are people like you who sterotype others and put people in lump categories out of ignorance. That's what causes world wars and stuff. Get a clue, learn a little respect for others and keep your warped opinions in your own head.
