What do the papers say it is? I heard that Toy is just a description and not a registered term. If you have a dog that has lived with you for a year and you would THINK of returning it because it isn't what you wanted, then by all means, take it back. It deserves better than to have someone who loves it so little as to dump it as soon as it doesn't fit your description anymore. And you should consider not getting any more animals. I wouldn't give you a dime after a year!

You bought a toy you should have a toy. Many times a toy will throw a larger pup, it is usually called an over sized toy unless it is fully 14" tall. Breeders expect that from time to time they will have to take a puppy back because it went over sized. If you haven't totally fallen in love with the pup by now then take it back and don't feel bad about it. This does happen sometime. $400.00 is a lot to pay and not get what you wanted.

How in the world could you take a puppy back after a year? I would however have a talk to the breeder about selling you the wrong dog. You say the dogs has papers...if that's the case, I would file a complaint with whoever the dog is registered with. AKC, CKC, whatever.
The breeder should bend over backwards to fix the situation. Tell them you want at least half your money back. Good Luck!!

You have had the dog for a year and would consider taking it back you must really not care about the poor thing I would think you would feel attached and it would be like giving up a member of your family after a year. What were you looking for a accessory and now the dog is to big so you want to return it like a purse that doesn't match your outfit. Poor dog how do you think will feel if you return it.

I'm sorry to sound blunt, but why does it even matter? You've had the puppy for one year now, you should love your pet. Not for the type of animal it is, but just the fact that it is an animal and deserves a home just like any other dog, cat or rabbit does. If you're not happy, I hope the dog finds it's way to proper owner.

There is no way to guarantee size anymore in buying a pet quality Poodle. They have been bred Toy/Miniature so much now, even a breeder is guessing.
You bought a pet......Had it been from a Show breeder, you would of gotten a guarantee. Keep your dog & be happy it's healthy.

Are you planning to breed your dog?
Are you planning to show your dog?
If your answer is "no" to either of the above questions then it really doesn't matter! Enjoy your dog since it's been with you for a year now. And there's probably nothing in the contract that you signed, if there was a contract, about you being able to bring the dog back unless it's for some genetic disorder.

well you probably either keep it and swallow your money or you must give back the dog and get your money back, You would probably have to take this to small claims... but if you love the dog why would you want to take it back.
Seems like to me, you should not have any animals, if you loved the dog you would never think about taking them back because it isn't a "toy poodle" it's a "miniature poodle".
You're Lame!

After the Harry Potter craze, my husband bought a "Neapolitan Mastiff" with papers, and parents on sight. Long story short, she is a black blood hound. That doesn't mean she is not part of our family!

Are you sure? Which size is it? The medium or the smallest? How tall is she at the shoulder. How do you know it is a minature and not a toy?
