HOW OFTEN ARE YOU WILLING TO BE SHREDDED TO RIBBONS? Click on the link in "Sources" to determine the number of baths a cat requires.

Seriously, cats are really clean animals and only require bathing in odd circumstances like fleas or running into a skunk. Make sure to use a vet approved cat shampoo or you will disrupt the natural chemistry of their skin and fur.

I have had my cat for about 4 yrs. and we have given her maybe 2 baths in that time. Cats usually keep very clean and bathe themselves several times a day. I would suggest doing it only when really needed (flea bath, mud etc) unless they just really love water, I've seen some on tv that do. Mine hates water and she is also an indoor cat so that makes a big difference as well. My dog on the other hand, gets a bath about once a week, or else! She is also an indoor dog, but she still smells if we don't give her one!!!

You should bathe your cat when it needs it. Very individual, I have one cat, Peyton that is never bathed he just doesn't need it. Jerry Garcia is bathed maybe once a year. Stinky Jamie is bathed once a month. For some reason he has always had a body odor all of his life the poor baby.

I'd say if your kitty looks and smells ok- let him groom himself. Cats don't like the water and it is stressful even when you start them out young. But always brush your puddy that really helps keep the hairballs away!

Unless the cat is really visibly dirty, and if the cat is kept indoors, they do not need to be bathed.Bathing too often strips the cats hair of oils. Brushing the coat on a regular basis will keep the coat shiny and will prevent matting. Its also good bonding time.

Cats are really clean naturally. Unless it's sick or something, you never need to bathe a cat (and most cats will let you know this!).

Don't give a cat a bath unless absolutely necessary - if it gets messed up in the litter box, etc.

I don't bathe my cat unless I see fleas or ticks on him. Cats are usually very clean creatures and can clean themselves. Plus they scatch alot when you bathe them
