Rocky, my 10 year old Lhasa Apso, is generally a sweet dog but occasionally gets ill tempered around strangers, especially smaller children (toddlers to 5th grade or so). He's generally a nice dog but can get sneaky.

Any suggestions aside from The Dog Whisperer?

It's called old age....not wanting to be bothered.
Just put him away when you have company.

May I suggest you curry your Lhasa Apso with a side of snow peas. That will take care of the biting and make a lovely meal for the small children your dam dog bit.

A muzzle and don't walk the dog in my neighborhood.

Keep the dog penned up when other people are around or you are going to be sued and your dog will be put to sleep.

Biting a small child once is too "frequent."

Have you taken it to the vet to see if it has an illness or injury that would cause this behavior?

same with my Lhasa Apso! they all are very protective and think they rule there preoperty when its really yours!! lol. i dont know why they do so but i suggest getting a Lhasa Apso owners book, my sister reads it a lot and gets a lot out of it like, when there bored, they tend to bark at nothing!! lol.

Show the dog that you are the alhpa male. When it goes after a person, make a noise. Stand over the dog, showing that you are the alpha. I would ask a dog trainer first before trying this.

at 10 years of age he is entitled to be a grumpy old bloke. Simply keep him away from children for his and your peace of mind. Little brats are horrid things in any case and he shouldn't have to deal with the noisy little buggers.
