It means a few things. If you didnt stretch and warm up before, it will be sore, if you didnt stretch and cool down after, it will be sore. If you didnt breath enough oxygen while exercising, lactic acid built up in the muscle making it sore. To get rid of the lactic acid, take a warm bath and massage the muscles.

Working out underveloped muscles can cause some pain and it is very frequently that it does.
However the saying "No Pain, No Gain" does not mean you maybe haven't injured a muscle, strain, tear, etc. You have to be careful with this as continued workouts could damage it more.

I would say you are sore from using muscles that you do not nomally use, so carry on carefully and the soreness will fade

It means you did not stretch or warm up properly. WHat makes you sore is the lactic acid builup in your muscles.

if you excersize reguarly,yes it is called muscle failure in which the muscle tears a little and in turn can rebuild itself up stronger
