this has always worked for me when traveling for trips home to weddings or for business....
take your dress (or suit) and put it back int he dry cleaners bag - open it nicely and fold it inside the plastic bag.
i recently did it with a rather "fancy dress" for a wedding and crmmed it in the carry on -- no mess.
OH but make sure you pack it on the top. if you're doing full luggage - you should only have to fold it in half. just go with the fold s of the dress when you do have to fold it.

Yup, roll them. Actually roll them around other clothing. That is an old Boy Scouts trick for the uniform and camping.

Pack them as you normally would because security will just mess them up. If you're going to a hotel, have them ironed (most big hotels have laundry service). Or you can buy and take with you something like this: http://www.wrinklespray.com/

it doesn't really mater if you roll them or not when they search your bags they will unroll them then just stuff them in your bag and it will be all wrinkly trust me i just went on a trip and thats what happen to me it sucked

roll them. you can actually take more dresses if you rool them in a tight cilinder.
