I pick up his food and water at 7:00pm, and he urinates before bed at 9:30pm. We can't have a doggy door or leave him outside at night. When he wakes me, I really need to let him out, because I don't want him going on my carpet or anywhere in the house, and I can tell he REALLY has to go. I try to give him lots of excersize during the day so he's too tired to wake up. I just need to know how to get him on a different poop schedule and how he can make it through the night without having to urinate. He's a 2yr old pomeranian. Help! :)

Try moving his feeding time a little earlier each night until it coincides with your waking schedule. Also, try taking the dog for a walk frequently, but try and make the last one long and thorough so he goes potty completely. Then get up say at 6 am.....for a week.....then 6:15 for a week and so on, until he is on your schedule. A little time consuming, but not that big a deal to have a dog potty trained, and not breaking training cause you won't take him. Or you can try crate training for this, very effective for drawing out the time a dog will go, but when they got to go they got to go....so consistantcy is key! Good luck with your Pom.

Pick his food up sooner and do not allow any more past say 5:00. Try giving him a little exercise prior to the last time you let him out, for whatever reason it will make my dogs go. If they lay around they hold it longer, but once my two get moving they won't hold it.

Pom's are notoriously poopers. Feed him his main meal before lunch time. This will give him plenty of time to poop before bed. Take him out at 11pm and stay with him and encourage him to toilet and reward him when he does. Otheriwse, just keep your disinfectant cloth close by. If he is made to go to bed at 9.30pm it is too early, he needs to be let out much later than this.

feed him in the morning. Being he's 2 years old, he doesn't need to eat but once a day.
