What would boot camp look like? Wouldn't this be unfair to homosexuals? Being married I would feel very unconfortable being housed with, taking showers with, etc. a bunch of females around me. This is what you have if you house homosexuals together and/or with other men. So what do we do? Do we house them with women? How would the women feel about a man showering with them? How many straight guys would claim to be gay just to get the opportunity? Do we give a personal, private barracks for each homosexual? Wouldn't that make the homosexual as well as the other enlisted people feel uncomfortable? How would that affect morale? What do you think?

I think it's a silly concern. Who cares if they're gay. What distinguishes men and women are their sexual organs..not their sexual orientation.

Treat men like men regardless of orientation

Treat women like women regardless of orientation

Once in the battlefield.. everyone needs to be able to shoot "Straight & True" at the common enemy.

They're not going to say.. Ok.. Gay Guys take the right flank and set up a perimeter... Women.. ya'll go to the rear...and men.. you...xyz...

No.. not going to happen.

What difference would it make if they were gay? You are obviously not in the military or you would know that there are many men and women who are gay. Some are open and others are not. But guess what 9 out of 10 times you know who is gay. At basic you don't have time to eye the other person in the shower it is usually get in, water, okay your done get out. No time to even wash, so where would be the time for a little sneak peak of your neighbor. To be honest with you I know some gay men and women in the military and never once is it an issue until they make it an issue. As long as they do their job and keep their business to themselves (just like straight folks should do), there is no problem. You need to be more open minded, just because someone is gay doesn't mean they want to have sex with you.

You're missing the whole point of "being openly gay" and serving in the military. Soldiers forced to share a foxhole with an openly gay would by association be suspect by other soldiers. Daily life is not restricted to a barracks environment, and how do you think a straight soldier would react to a known gay medic preping him for a hernia operation? (the pubic hair has to be removed) There's plenty of other situations that would compromise a military mission if it was known that a gay was in the group. Fact or Myth, gays have a bad reputation for being unreliable, weak wristed and untrustworthy. It affects the moral and efficiency of straights.

I am in the military and have never really thought about that. Personally, I have come to be more tolerant of gays since I joined the military. I can see it being a little weird though for EVERYONE involved. I can also see straight guys attacking the gays. No, males would not under any circumstances be housed with the females. My drill seargents are not even allowed in the females dorm while showering is going on, and females are not allowed in the males. So, if an instructor is not allowed in the room, why would another trainee be allowed?

The issue is really one of how the military is and always has been structured. The basest of instincts and emotions are encouraged. Things such as anger, vengeance, and assetiveness are encouraged.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and most of the openly gay men that I have encountered here tend to display more effeminate qualities and emotions...in contrast to those I mentioned above...which would put them at immediate odds with most senior military officials.
Now I am not saying that there is no place in the military for openly gay men, but they will have to understand that certain areas would just be impossible for them to fit into. Specialized skill areas such as Army Infantry, Rangers, and Special Forces; Air Force Special Ops; Navy SEALs and of course just about anywhere in the Marine Corps.

Let's see, the way they handle boot camp now is.

They put 40 to 50 men in a single room, and forbid them from seeing women for at least 2 months.

Hmmmm...

Is this why military intelligence is an oxymoron?

The boots would be designer boots! And you'd all have fantastic uniforms and a really talented interior decorator for each barrack!I know that homosexual males can fight every bit as well as straight males, and I believe that they would be smart enough to stick to other gays for satisfying their personal needs. They would fix their "queer eyes" on upgrading the straight guys wardrobes and grooming. Just think, all that dull khaki ambiance might be exchanged for rainbow hues. What fun!

Dont men have any self-control at all. Just because the guy is gay does it mean he's going to try and jump on the straight men in the shower? Do you think that if all men in the army were gay the shower would just be a big orgy. It doesn't work like that. Get a clue.

I think they will handled it the same way they do now. house men with men, women with women.

Also it's not like there are no gays in the military they just can't be open about it.

most country's that are our friends and come to Iraq with us have open sexuality policies and do not care what you do or with who as long as the person is not in your chain. I feel that is how the whole world should look at it. if you do your job it's all good
