Stand closer to him so that he can't hit you full strength.

you have to be able to move laterally with lots of head movement. also depends on style of fighter, some tall guys are brawlers, but let's assume he's jabber. Nullify the jab by countering every time he uses it by head punches. then switch attack to head/body/head by short punches inside. old style way to train was to have horizontal rope at shoulder height and move along it bobbing and weaving whilst shadow boxing. other way is to have towel around your shoulders grasping ends in "guard" position and do same rope moves all while throwing short hooks utilising full body movements, i.e. hips/shoulders. few weeks of that plus practising in sparring will make life lot easier with the skinnies.

Even though your opponent is taller, does your opponent have a reach advantage? If so you are going to have to get inside, but remember everything works off the JAB. Be offensive and defensive with it, probe with it, double and triple up on it. be effective with your jab and your good combinations will follow.

mmmh... if it's a competition, get inside and be quick to block... if it's someone bullying you, try the words. Find out his weaknesses, and find some sharp phrases to hurt his feelings. I know for sure that words hurt much more deeply than an uppercut. My big brother used to bully me, and I learned to stop him just talking, leaving him on the edge of tears...

ur only chance to hold ur own with a taller man is to stay on the inside. use a cover up defense kinda like mickey ward ....or a side to side like joe frazier.
