Hi. I just got a meduim-sized poodle last week. He is very mature for being one and a half years old, he was already house trained and he just got nuetered. However, he can be very ignorant and lazy when I tell him to come and to sit. Like when i have a treat and tell him to sit he acts like he doesnt know what i am talkiing about then i gently push on his hind until he reluctantly sits.. I thank you in advance for your advice....

He might know what you want or has not received enough training. He is one and a half, do you know what his life was like before you got him. By that age they're pretty set in their ways, but that does not mean you can't train him more. Try leash work. Put aside some time every day and get him on a leash. Have him sit and then stand back and tell him to come, if he does not give him a little tug and pull him to you. When he does lavish him with praise and give him a treat. Repeat it until he gets it down. Same thing with the sit. You can also buy training leads, which go from 15 ft to 50 ft. They allow distance so you really can get him trained. This routine can also help you with "stay".

It sounds like you need to take this dog to good obedience classes. They can teach you how to train your dog. He's not being ignorant or lazy - he obviously hasn't been trained yet. By the way, you've only had him a week? He doesn't even know you yet - he's got no reason to work for you.
