Carry hairspray - if they come towards you squirt it at them - they'll leave you alone - you can also get a pepper type spray - but those are painful for the dog.

Is this a common problem where you live? I know in my area we have leash laws so dogs are prohibited from being off a leash. If I have problems in my area I call the dog warden who gives the owners a warning followed by a fine. I have been a jogger for years and always take my dogs, there was one neighbor who constantly violated the ordinances and his dog was vicious. It sounds mean but I had to protect myself ans my dogs, so I carried pepper spray (there is also a spray you can buy at pet stores). I sprayed him once after he bit me and he never bothered my dogs or I again. I am an animals rights activist but I did not want my dogs or my nephew bit any more. This dog ran rapid throughout our neighborhood so it did not matter where you went he was there.

Have you called animal control about the stray dogs? That would be my first suggestion. Is there a park/lake area near by that doesn't have stray dogs? You may want to take her there instead.
Try a harness for your dog, It can give you better control if a dog comes near her, and carry mace, to protect you and the dog.

Is this common is your area? Dogs attacking other dogs? Why would that be a fear? When I walk my dogs, my biggest fear is they'll take a crap and I forgot to bring bags!
Be sure she's fixed so she doesn't attract males...keep her leashed...walk in safe neighborhoods...be sure she is fully vaccinated...these are things you can do to keep your pet safe.

These dogs shouldn't be running amuck in your neighborhood. If this is a persistant problem and no one in the neighborhood owns these dogs, call your local animal control. (I work at a Humane Society) As for your dog, as long as she's on leash, then she should be fine. Is she chained up in the backyard?

IF YOU OWN A PIT YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SAME RIGHT AS A PET OWNER AS THE REST OF US DO. IN MY TOWN YOU CANT EVEN OWN A PIT. WE WORKED HARD TO MAKE THAT LAW..PLEASE OBEY IT......AND I DONT WANT TO HEAR HOW FRIENDLY AND LOVING YOUR PIT IS. PLEASE TELL ME YOU DONT HAVE ANY CHILDREN LIVING IN YOUR HOUSE....

WHY would other dogs attack her? I don't get it. That is a very strange question to ask. I will add this to my watch list.
If she is in heat and has not been spayed, shame on you. Get her fixed immediately..............You would have every male within twenty miles chasing you.
