creationists say only god created all life and evolution does not exist. How do they explain antibiotic resistance in bacteria (ask any hospital). Is their god playing an evil joke on humans?

This is an excellent question. At the heart it asks what the definition of evolution is. For even scientists don't point to this as the undeniable proof of evolution. Why not?

The answer is that while survival of the fittest is an important part of the theory of evolution, it is not, in and of itself, evolution. Evolution demands new genetic information that was not present before.

This is not what happens with bacteria becoming more resistant to antibiotics. Antibiotics only kill of a percentage of the bacteria. A certain amount of the bacteria was ALREADY immune. Since those that were not immune die off, the immune bacteria are the ones left to reproduce. We are creating selective breeding, but we are not seeing the bacteria mutating to evolve to resist the anti-biotics. If we stopped using anti-biotics except for in life or death situations, most of the bacteria that are not immune to anti-biotics would be allowed to reproduce once again, and we would see our anti-biotics become more and more effective.

Just a couple points:

Adaptation does not involve a change in an organism's biology in response to its environment - that is evolution.

Creationism has nothing to do with science, so this is the only appropriate category for a question on Creation.

Not all people who believe in Creation believe in any form of evolution. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AizNHkU4o6sROvo46zcP8Wzsy6IX?qid=20060927222434AAY39j5

Bacteria becomes resistant by natural selection. You've got some bacteria. You spray them to kill them. A couple survive because of some difference in traits that made them stronger. They "reproduce". More bacteria with that same difference - fewer die this time. A couple of those even had another slight difference that made them even stronger. Those reproduce more than the weaker ones and take all the resources. Eventually, we (and other forces of nature) have killed off all the ones that would have been susceptible to the anti-septics, giving rise to these mutated ones that are resistant. Thus, the bacteria have evolved.

Organisms becoming different, but still being the same organism(like staph bacteria becoming resistant but still being staph) is called micro-evolution. This is not a problem for the creation scientist. Macro-evolution( staph becoming a fish)is contrary to creationism and has never been observed or proven.
Antibiotics are not the only way to treat infections, and often cause more harm. God isn't playing the joke, the drug companies are.

Since Adam let satan, sin and the Curse into the Earth, things get messed up more as we go along.
One Day the Lion will lay down with the Lamb. GOD is agonna Change some DNA Too. At one point in the Past, all animals were Vegetarians.
Can't prove it. Mankind started out as Vegetarians too! Can't prove that either.

Hello again, babe. The three creationists of whom I asked your question denied that bacteria have evolved to be antibiotic resistant or that they have evolved at all. They insist these are new germs we just haven't noticed before. A more appropriate question would be to ask 'em how they explain the fact that you can grow culture after culture of the same organism (germ) and actually watch the things evolve over the course of a few months to a few years! So I asked - they denied it can be done - and further, REFUSED to join me in the lab and watch as I demonstrated this phenomenon! DON'T CONFUSE 'EM WITH FACT; THEIR MINDS ARE MADE UP!

It is plainly evident that evolution is just a story devised to try to explain away God. If there were no other evidences against evolution, this one alone would destroy it. Venus and Pluto are spinning backward to the way that centrifugal force would dictate if the big bang theory were correct. 6 planets have moons orbiting backwards, and Neptune, Saturn and Jupitar have moons orbiting in both direction.

Creationists do not believe in evolution, the radical evolving of one organism into another (ferns into finches, and whales into cows). They do however, believe in adaptation, that an organism will make minor changes to adjust to survive in the atmosphere in which it is existing. (Dogs growing longer hair to live in colder environments)

We are told by God Himself that he does not tempt man. (Jas 1:13)

Hope this helps!

Because of original sin, the world is plummeting into chaos and all the evil of mankind is the result. The way God created the world to "be" no longer exists because of "sin." Once this world passes away, after Jesus Christ returns to claim His church, once Heaven is on earth, then and only then, will the world return to "perfection." Every living organism is now tainted by sin - but the hope we have is in the living God who will restore it all. Hope that helps. And that my friend, is no joke.

Why are there such a variety of dogs?

Why can scientists working with fruit flies, can't come up with a new species. They have hundreds of "different looking fruit flies, but not a new bug.

variations in a "kind" doesn't prove evolution,

Just because today they are resistance, doesn't make them a "new kind".

People in some countries can drink water that would kill me to drink, but they are still humans.

Can you explain how a bacteria becomes resistant?
The science and medical world will be glad to talk to you.
(too complicated for them?)

Ah, choose your favorite answer:

1. It's a punishment from God for things like homosexuality.

2. Satan (or satin) did it. =)

3. Well, that's micro evolution, which is fine, but macro evolution is crap.

I think #3 is possibly the most frustrating for me personally. The first 2, I write off entirely.
