Most purebreeds are dumb as bricks. If you want a smart pet, go for a mix.

I have a border collie mix and a cat and I swear they work together. I swear once left the pet treats on top of the fridge and the cat jumped up there to knock it down for the dog.

Individual animals within breeds of cats or dogs may exhibit abilities that seem intelligent, and ask ten different people and you'll probably get ten different answers. The fact is all breeds of domesticated cats are the same species (Felis silvestris catus) and all breeds of domesticated dogs are the same species (Canis lupus familiaris). Over the centuries breeders have manipulated them to express or suppress different traits within the breed. It really depends on how you define intelligence...some breeds are more trainable than others, while others have more intrinsic curiosity. If you define intelligence as the ability to retain information, cats usually win out over dogs but dogs are usually much better at word recognition. Dogs: Border Collies and Alsations, also known as German Shepherds, with Labradors and Retrievers not far behind. Most 'working' breeds are pretty intelligent.

Cats: Siamese.

Dogs rank slightly above the cabbage and just beneath the potted begonia in terms of intelligence. Cats, on the other hand, are masters of the planet.

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.

Domestic or wild? Domestic for dogs is probably the collie or the Australian shepered. For wild cats panther. Domesticated cat probably they all are the same level of intelligence but I think Siamese in my opinion are smarter.Wild dogs probably a dingo or "cattle dog".

I hope this helped
