To some degree, aren't we all full of "it". It seems no matter how much you strive to be honest with yourself and others, at some point we all fall prey to this, regardless of religious background. Or is it just me that is full of "it"?

This was inspired by the book On Bullshit, a new and very short philosophical text for anyone who is interested.

The philosophy section of any bookstore should have it, and just for the sake of posterity, I am not the author, nor do I know the author. I am really just a guy who was reading it.

When motives and actions are aligned with words, the BS quotient goes way down.

You're right. I think it's mainly because we all want to be liked.

Some people feel the need to belong to some sort of group because it makes them feel like they belong and are liked (like religious groups or a myriad of other organizations)...they always know that there's someone out there that will agree with them and think like them. The result? They feel good about themselves and feel liked and "right". I think if there were nobody to lean on, people would be more "real" with themselves about who they are.

I'm guilty of it, too. Though I'm not a religious person, I eat it up when someone agrees with me and feel lonely if I don't have a sidekick nearby.

So I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes people have to throw around a little crap to keep people on their side...whether it be in the form or white lies, pumping themselves up, playing devil's advocate, or joining an organized group where someone will always view them as knowledgeable and likable - because we all just want to be loved. It's human nature.

I can bullshit, but I wouldn't say that I'm full of it, I actually would say I'm more refreshingly (brutally) honest.
... thats what you get after alot of looking inward (i know i sound like some new-agey psych-analytical hippy) which is funny, because I'm not.

... I just think theres alot of bullshit... in general.... in order to get yourself out of it you need to look really hard at yourself and see who you are, when you truly know who you are, and get past all your stupid bullshit, very little suprises you anymore (except maybe how much bullshit people present to you)

I know it sound like a whole bunch of "I love myself, I think I'm GREAT" ... maybe it is.... maybe I do...

I never lie to myself. Self-delusion is the province of religious nutjobs. If I lie to others, I do so because it is in my best interest.
