Because the AR groups have so many politicians in their back pocket. They want to end all animal ownership and MSN laws are a great tool for them to use to further their no pet agenda.

I can't believe not a single poster on here 'gets it'. No wonder they are winning in the battle to keep pets. WAKE UP people!!!

Beth - No, they just want to end all pets. Period.

Mandy - Its called mandatory spay/neuter. Currently the law in LA county, Albuquerque, and now Indiana is jumping on the dog hating bandwagon. Tell the people hiding out with their (old, sick or show) dogs in those places the government doesn't do it.

It's an attempt to control over population but goes too far sometimes. There are people who want to adopt pets that haven't necessarily been spayed or neutered. I do appreciate the attempt just think sometimes they could leave that decision up to potential adopters and perhaps save themselves a few dollars in the process.

To control the pet population. There are so many pets that are uthinized (sp?) because noone will adopt. If we didn't spay and neuter, there would be dogs and cats taking over with all of their humping and having pups and kitties. It's better to have them fixed then to have them possibly killed later due to overpopulation.

Because the dog and cat are over populated. There aren't enough people to take care of all the animals. Many are unwanted and then abused. Neutering is the only solution.

I love dogs, and own my own. I also rescue them. Mine is from Sri Lanka, and survived the Tsunami. There are far too many dogs in the world, thats why rescues and pounds are at bursting point. It is only wise to spay and neuter pets, to stop unneccessary breeding. All breeding is unneccessary, breeders just do it to make money, not because they love dogs. It also reduces the risks oh health problems such as testicular cancer and ovarian cancer.

The only time the "government" spays or neuters an animal is if it comes from a city shelter, SPCA, ASPCA or a rescue group.

Because homeless pets is a gigantic problem. It is a moral problem in that millions of poor animals are exeuted each year because of overpopulation.

In addition, it causes problems for government in that there are costs for controlling the huge number of homeless pets. Not to mention the problems they cause in a community--with feral animals running loose.

But in my mind the biggest reason is the terrible shame of having to kill so many.

It is not really the government. They will do it if you adopt one from the pound, but you really are agreeing to it when you get the dog. And as for why... have you seen a horney male dog or worse yet a female? Now imagine them running around stray like that. Bad news.

In order to reduce the number of unwanted pets that get left on streets and put in shelters.
