Mary Poppins! (West End - I'm not sure if it's hit broadway yet) There are the usual songs from the film with some extra songs added for good value which seem completely in keeping. You leave the theatre on a complete high.

Also the musical version is a lot darker than the sanitized Walt Disney film - it's more true to the book.

Having said all that Les Mis comes in a very close second, just that you leave the theatre feeling emotionally drained!!!

We Will Rock You. I've seen in 5 times. I'm a bit of a Queen fanatic with an odd sense of humour. It's incredibly clever how the songs have been encorporated into the story by Ben Elton, and the characters created with names from the songs are very amusing. Scaramouche rules btw, as you will know if you have seen the play. Oh, and Britney Spears dying to save us is a touch of genius. The atmosphere is incredible, and as an audience, you feel very involved. It is a musical where you are encouraged to get up and dance and sing along. Audience participation in anticipated and invited. It's really a very clever and likeable show.

I also have great admiration for The Phantom of the Opera. Though it is now a very old play, having run for over twenty years, it is technically breathtaking. It's a theatrical masterpiece, with a working stage like I've never seen. The whole stage must be covered in trapdoors and various other workings. The overtures are so powerful they wrack your body and draw you close, and there's an eerie sense to it all. I absolutely adored it, and the title song is still in my mind. I guess in that sense, The Phantom of the Opera continues to haunt you long after you've seen it. I recommend it highly, although I warn you - it's not cheap. My tickets were my birthday present.

I've always found musicals terribly boring. I know it's prejudice but ever since I was young I thought. Gee, that's not really a film and it's not really a concert. People are acting and then all of the sudden everyone is singing.

I only started taking interest in musicals after I saw "Dancer in the Dark". Beautiful music - Björk at her best! Great acting! Beautiful plot - very sad, but beautiful.

I have to admit I cried my eyes out. The first time I saw it I felt like the tears were jumping out of my eyes.

Take care!

It's a tough choice between Les Miserables (a musical which doesn't age, has a fantastic score and was the first West End musical I got to work on) and West Side Story (just simply a classic musical with one of the best scores).

My favorite musical without a doubt is Hamlet:The musical. I know what you're thinking :"Huh?" It's a very little known musical but it's absolutely great. It's both hilarious and dark at the same time. I worked spotlight for the show at the Burt Reynolds Theatre about 12 years ago and it's still my favorite musical.

I would say Tommy but technically that is an opera (a rock opera) so instead I will go for the unusual choice of "Once More WIth Feeling" the Buffy musical. At uni we had a sort of Buffy club and we all loved the musical so much... we would all sing it together... great times.
Aside from that Cats is great too.

I am obsessed with Phantom of the Opera. I have seen it three times on Broadway, met Howard McGillian (in Phantom on broadway when I saw it), and watched the movie too many times than I can count. I love it sooo much because I feel connected with the Phantom. I hate to admit it but I have had depression in the past and when I listen to the music or watch the movie, I can relate to the phantom's feelings. I absolutely adore this musical and I encourage everyone to see it.

The one I wrote in 2001, called MEA, but I just can't get anyone with the clout to listen to it because no one has the time, you can't just sample one "tune" from an hour and a half. Also the big names seem to have all the small people squeezed out and it's like wanting a big mac in Oxford Street on a saturday afternoon. Except that you get to eat your big mac after a wait
.
I suppose MEA will gather dust in a drawer while we watch the riskfrees.
Is there anybody out there?

EFX - (Vegas) - There'll never be another like it and certainly not in the West End. Michael Crawfords' voice is so captivating you jut find yourself truly believing in the magical worlds he takes you through. With Wizards and Dragons and an Intergallactic Circus of Wonders, who could ask for anything more?

I would have to say its a tie between Phantom of the the Opera and Les Miserables. Both are phenomenal shows its a shame Les Mis went off broadway but I think they are bringing it back this fall... not sure.
