YES my son has the same problem. It is an allegory to nickle. Costume jewelry contains nickle!!! He had it so bad he couldn't wear a belt because of the buckle and his belly would break out in a rash. He also couldn't wear a watch of a ring.

Good news you can wear good gold, pure sterling silver...

Also go to nonickel.com

They have some jewelry and a coating that you can paint on the back of watches and buttons to keep the nickle off of your skin. They also sell some nickle free watches.

You can use hydrocortison on the rash and it will clear up in a week.

You have to be careful because it isn't only the face of the watch, even cloth or plastic bands have metal hooks and fasteners that are made of nickle. I got my son a divers watch and still he got a rash right at the buckle and it was mostly plastic.

Hope this helps

I am also allergic to most metals against my skin. In the military, I had to get plastic covers for my "dog tags."
A few months ago, I checked out hypoallergenic watches on my computer and purchased a Fossil watch. I have not had a bit of skin trouble. I noticed another reply that stated the individual has Fossil watches and no problems.
Also, another individual suggested felt backing. I'd try the Fossil watch first. Good luck and good health!

One of my friends had this problem in school and so took to wearing a watch with a plastic strap. What were they called.... Baby Gee or something... anyway, they were faddy, but you can find similar things. the watch market has expanded so much you can get the wildest funkiest watches - a plastic watch need not look childish or pathetic. You can get beaded watches with plastic backs so as to prevent any metal from contacting your wrist. These are obviously the hypoallergenic alternative. I'm sure these are available in most catalogues, e.g, Argos, or try small shops/funky clothes stores.

Sounds like you have a nickel allergy. The only other type of watch you could buy is a real gold or silver one.
If it is just the back part of the watch that is irritating you, then a good remedy is to paint it with clear nail varnish to put a barrier between your skin and the metal.

It could be similar to a sweat rash my friend got it all the time no matter what type of watch she wore but she didn't get it off bracelets so she got a fancy little watch face and put it on a bracelet but if it happens to you with everything have you try ed titanium and its not that expensive or 24car gold but that is a bit expensive. hope this is of use to you

Hi I had the same problem, but my last 2 watches were made by Fossil and both have been great. No irritation at all. Good quality and start from around £40 upwards.

My Mum had this problem and she got round it by painting the back of the watch with clear nail varnish. It is easily removed and reapplied when necessary.

Another way is to put a piece of Band Aid on the back.

You may have a nickel allergy, if so a good tip is to paint the back of your watch face and bracelet with clear nail varnish, it provides a barrier between the metal and your skin, good luck.

you are more than likely allergic to the different metals. I had a friend in high school that could not wear anything less than 24k gold because the lower ones contained the alloys that she was allergic to. Try 14-24K gold only.
