There's only one deck worth purchasing, and that would be entitled the Thoth deck. Look at Barnes & Noble or a good occult store.

Major bookstores and metaphysical shops sell Tarot Cards. Go to the stores and see which one speaks to you. Also, look online at Amazon or do an online search. There may be some decks that are not available in the stores.

The Goddess Tarot by Kris Waldherr is beautiful. I actually have the deck and one of her prints.

Good luck.

I would suggest to not go shopping for them with too closed of a mind... if one particular deck jumps out at you (literally or figuratively) then get that.

trust your instincts. here I've seen quite a few at new agey/headshops and new age bookstores.

lol, it always amuses me when I read things like this. its boggling how people with an open mind to a certain extent, can have such a harsh wall to run into, in such an arbitrary way.
the variety of decks exist for a reason.

Here's a good site to see literally just about every deck out there: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/ Check it out and see which ones work for you...I picked my first deck from that site and it worked out quite well.

ETA: I must say the Thoth deck is my favorite...and I also must say, it's certainly not for everyone! :D

There are so many to choose from. Check out places like e-bay and such so you can see the art on different decks.
This site offers pictures of a few different decks. http://www.tarotwisdomreadings.com/tarotdecks.html

Most bookstores have them in their New Age section unless of course it is a used bookstore or Christian or College bookstore.
