This question sounds very familiar.
Anyway, I assume you mean lose body fat, not weight, because you can be over the average weight but still be very healthy.

Like what most people already said, eating properly is going to be a big key. Instead of eating 3 times a day, try eating 5 times a day. Each meal should not fill you up just give you enough energy to last till the next meal. This will speed up you metabolism, because it has to work more times during the day.

Also try eating cabohydrates in the morning instead of the evening. So pastas, cereals, breads, sandwiches, stuff like that, don't eat in the evening. If you do, your body wont' burn it off as much because you go to sleep and become inactive. Your body will store it as body fat. Eat more protein and meats in the evenings.

Eating more fruits and drinking plenty of water will help flush out unnecessary stuff out of your body and assist with the weight loss. Interestingly enough, cold water is believed to help your metabolism too because your body has to heat it up.

Now, dieting won't do it alone, exercise will help speed things along. Regular exercise will help your metabolism speed up, and any extra muscle you build will burn fat more because it needs the extra energy.

I recommened Tabata intervals, these have worked very quickly for me and I only did them about 2-3 times a week. Basically, you do very intense exercise for 30 seconds, then you cool down for 30 seconds. You repeat this for about 4-5 mins (I recommend starting at 3 and build yourself up to 5). The beauty is that it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it hard and fast.

For example, you can run in place as fast as you can for 30 seconds, then stop. You breath and relax to bring your heart rate down, then you do jumping jacks as fast as can for 30 seconds. You can shadow box, jump rope, do push ups, whatever, as long as you can go all out. just make sure that it's something your body can handle and that won't hurt you.

For extra effect, do it in the morning to have a boosted metabolism the rest of the day.

I worked for me when I needed to lose body fat quick. It's hard to do, but if you just keep you goal in mind and stay focused you can do. As always, you'll probably want to consult your physcian before doing any exercise program you're unsure about. Good luck.

Theres no quick fix, you gotta do it the right way and then it will stay off. Fad diets dont work and ruin your health in some cases. Sensible eating, smaller portions and exercise will do the job. Oh and you will need to stick to it and give it a chance to work.
