Genesis 6:3-5 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with [a] man forever, for he is mortal [b] ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

Think about the Nephilim and their power. Could the legends of the mythological characters of Zeus, etc have been based upon the Nephilim?

The Old Testament spans several thousands of years in time, so it is plausible that the Nephilim were prior or about the same time as Ancient Greek, Roman, and Nordic mythologies.

Well, it is indeed plausible, as in the fact that nearly all Western mythology collides and borrows from one another at various points. However, as was pointed out, the stuff in the Old Testament was written by Moses, and we do know when in history he lived. The factual aspect of what Moses wrote has to be tempered with the amount of times it had been passed on orally and how it could have changed in those times.
Also, if you want to compare mythologies from the source, you'd just say Greek mythology. The Romans didn't borrow and change it until much later.

The Nephilim were just big guys, like Goliath. People make too big a deal of them. The average man was only around 5 ft 2 back then so a guy 6 ft 5 was like a giant and of course a good warrior. Contrary to the way many believe they were not Son's of fallen angels. Angels are sexless beings and cannot reproduce.
And for the poor mis-informed people saying that greek and roman mythology predates Christianity, they are right on that small point, but hugely wrong in the fact that the Book of Genesis predates any Greek or Roman society by hundreds of years.

You need to check on your chronology my friend. The greek myths were from well before the torah myths:
"Archaeology and mythography, on the other hand, has revealed that the Greeks were inspired by some of the civilizations of Asia Minor and the Near East. Cybele is rooted in Anatolian culture, and much of Aphrodite's iconography springs from the Semitic goddesses Ishtar and Astarte."

As others have stated, you have the correlation right - but who copied who is based on who was first not who was last. Most of Christianity is copied from other religions. Everything Christmas, everything Easter.
And "the son's of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them" - That has been interpreted as we were visited by aliens that improved our gene pool. You can get anything out of the bible.

Greek and Roman religion came first dude. They came in like 1000 years before Christianity, most likely more.

certain, that became a commonplace occurrence. lots of the better ideal heroes contained in the Trojan warfare were sons or grandsons of gods and mortal females. Achilles, the most effective guy on both aspect, became the son of the goddess Thetis and a mortal king named Peleus. at the same time as the ships landed, he face Cycnus a son of the sea god Poseidon. close to the top of the warfare, he facedd Memnon the son of the goddess Eos and a mortal rince Tithonous. The maximum effective guy who ever lived became Heracles (Hercules to the Romans) a son of Zeus king of the gods and Alcmene. Gods infrequently marrried human beings. that they had amorous affairs with them.

Yes, the greeks invented their mythology 2000 years BEFORE CHRISTIANITY by using the OT...
Check your chronology dear. You are so far off its not funny...Christianity pirated the story of Jesus from these sources, and many many others.

Genesis was authored by Moses.
So your argument does have some validity, since Moses lived during the reign of Rameses II.

Or how about you look at it logically and conclude that christianity incorporated a large portion of Roman mythology to make christianity more palatable to the public.
