Yes, it is imporatant.
One, dogs in the "wild" travel a lot and cover a lot of distance looking for food, water, etc.
Two, it helps them let out energy. Pent up energy can lead to behavior problems.
Three, it's a great way for you to bond and spend time with your dog.
I could keep going, but I'm sure you can see how important walking is.

Yes. It starts the "bonding process" and the person is supposed to be in total control of the walk, so the dog will see you are the leader. I have had a few problem ridden dogs over the years, and I must say-the more exercise they get-walks, runs, play, the better they are. If they know you are in control of them on the leash, and you keep walking them, and walking them and walking them, they learn that you are the boss, and it will help other problems, and they"learn to respect" what you say, do and want them to do.Dogs that bark alot, chew, and are generally naughty almost always need more exercise. Even if you think they are getting enough-the average 2 walks a day-it probably is not enough. Plus, the more tired they are, the calmer they become.

Walking a dog is very important. By walking a dog-andkeeping it next to you, not in front-you are asserting yourself as "pack leader." You are also getting rid of some spare energy that could cause a dog to become frusterated, and badly behaved. When you walk a dog you are strengthening the bond between you, and this is vital to good dog ownership. Walking a dog, is a MUST. Usually, walks should be once or twice a day, lasting between a half hour to an hour, depending on your dog's breed, age, and energy level.

Yes, walking the dog is important because:
1) Exercise- a dog who is not being exercised is bored and full of energy that he will direct into activities such as chewing, barking, etc.
2) Properly walking the dog (dog at your side, human in confident control) establishes you as the pack leader. Making your dog more likely to listen to you and know his place in the pack.
Cesar always says that the walk, done properly, is the most important thing you can do. So simple but so important.

Walking a difficult or overactive dog gets the dog's mind in a submissive state. Walking a dog allows their brains to be stimulated and exert some pinned up energy.
Think about what its like when you go out for a walk on a nice day. Your senses are stimulated and your endorphins kick in. This is mental exercise for your dog.
After you walk a dog, he is in a relaxed state of mind as is more receptive to your training.....remember, he is probably too tired to not comply.
I hope this helped you understand the benefits of dog walking; for your dog and you! :)

I belive walking is very important.. My parents have 2 dogs that they do not walk and they wonder why they bite and tear up stuff.. Its because they have toooooooooooooo much energy..
I think the Dog Whisperer does the walking thing to get to the root of the problem by getting them all tired... and waring them out..

In answer to your original question, yes walking is that important.
If you're thinking of aquiring a dog, be prepared to make social changes, lifestyle changes and become more dedicated to your pup.
Dogs have a great sense of loyalty and all they ask is for the same in return, but before we do, we need to ensure that we will be 100% responsible for the dog, his/her entire life span and that includes a routine....no matter the weather or that weekend trip you planned since last year...the dog will come first.

I m sure it is or it appears so. I think that it is more of owners not treating their dogs like dogs. All these "dog purses" and out fits. It definantly messes up their natural drive. And just like us excersise is important for the physical and mental being. However. It does seem ridiculous that he always walks them. We just need to stop babying our pets and be the alphas in the house. WE are the pac leaders

YES it really is that important.
Every time you walk out of the door in front of the dog and you take him some where and you lead him and he follows you you are reinforcing that you are in charge and he is a subserviant to you. Dogs understand everything by pack order and by being the leader you are the top dog and it helps to reinforce that all the time. Every walk reinforces it and that helps the dog to understand you are the one in charge not him.
So yes it really is that important.
I have my clients start out with walking too. It really does work.
I can see who is in charge in a few short mintues by watching them walk or be draged by the dog.

I suspect he uses this activity because walking a dog on a leash leaves absolutely NO room for doubt as to who the top dog is!
