At what age do kids normally want to sleep by themselves?

Because it is really hard to get your young ones to sleep in their own beds and by themselves.?

Newborns. I never got my children in the habit of sleeping with me, so they never wanted to. On the rare occasions that they did lay in my bed, I always made sure they were in their own bed by bedtime. I think it isnt very safe to have little ones in the bed with their parents, also you cant get the private time you and your spouse need as adults if you have your 3 year old in bed with you. I say if you can, never get the child used to sleeping with you.

On the other hand, if you are doing it for cultural reasons, I say consult with someone older than yourself for advice on weaning a child from sleeping in the parents bed.

my youngest is nearly 8 and she sleeps with me a lot of the time but i don`t mind i`m by myself any way and to who ever said that about retards is talking crap , shes in year 4 at school and her age group is only in year 2 so it can`t be doing any harm and she`s been ok when she`s been away on holidays with out me.so i say it dosn`t matter so long as it suits you and the child

I put mine in his own bed at 2. I made a really big deal about him being a big boy, and I took him shopping and let him pick out all his own bedding.

it depends on how you bring up your child? if you start making the child to sleep alone early in life he or she will get used to it and start early. As the saying goes "children are what you make of them".

I'm guessing all kids will be different, they will do it on their own..or just make them
