why are my inkjet heat transfers fading so much after the first washing?

I am using HP printer and HP Vivera inks.

Inkjet transfers were never a good product in the first place. They work best for making transfers for items that will not be washed at all. One way to make them last a bit longer is to do the transfer as usual and then when it has cooled down (after ironing) spray the back of the transfer area with a matte clear sealer like spray acrylic.
