It depends on your body frame. You are definitely NOT obese. I am 5'7 and weigh about 190 and am often told that I look great.

I never believed in those weight charts since I think that they don't take into consideration different body types.

Go to a doctor and have a physical. That is the only way you will know if you are healthy. Blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. since you can be slightly overweight and still healthy.

If you're 5 feet 9 inches tall and 230 pounds, you're technically obese. Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman. As for what is considered "healthy," that's pretty subjective. A man who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds is technically obese, but there are a lot of college and professional running backs that sport those numbers, and they measure their body fat in single digits. Generally speaking, 165-170 is considered "average" for a man of that height, and 130-135 is considered "average" for a woman of that height. But again, don't let the scale tell the whole story...

I was told you should be 100lbs at 5 foot and 5 pounds for every inch. So you should be 145 by that equation. Although I would find the BMI equation. I'm 5'9 and I think when I did the body mass equation in 10th grade you are supposed to be 155..but dont take my word cause I don't remember well.

Your ideal weight is around 145. Based on your hheight and weight right now, you are not "officially" obese-your BMI is 34%. Once you weigh 245, you will be considered obese by health insurance standards-they came up with the standard to define when treatment can be sought. To qualify for gastric bypass, younormally have to be 100 lbs over your ideal weight or 40BMI

At 5'9", and 230 you're classified in the obese range. In order to drop down to the "normal range" you would need to lose about 65lbs. At 230lbs your BMI is 34 (Obese is classified as anything over 30). At 165 your BMI is 24.4 ("Normal" range for BMI is 18.5 - 24.9)

Probably, but the only way to know for sure is to ask a doctor. I don't know your build or body fat percentage.
