My dog is a 3 year old australian shepherd mix. She is never full and in one sitting she has eaten 2 pounds of fig newtons... she never gets full and always wants more. Sometimes she is aggressive about it too. We have trained her to stay out of the kitchen and not to beg but she is able to just run upstairs and get food from my boyfriends parents whenever she wants to . So I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Help she is getting FAT!!

You have to take control of the situation. Be firm and consistent, not just with the dog but with family members as well. It's not okay for the dog to be able to get food from house guests. Draw the line and enforce it. Establish yourself as the ONLY person who can feed her.

Your dog needs to be put on a regular feeding schedule to help reduce her weight and to get her digestive system back on line.

Feed her once a day, at the same time every day. Put child-proof "Tot Locs" on the cabinets and drawers if you have to, to keep her out of them.

Her behavior will get worse for the first week or so while she tries to manipulate food out of everyone else, but you have to remain firm in your conviction to help her get her diet under control.

Iams is not really a good dog food at all But that being said my dogs are fed top of the line and have been fed raw. But I have one dog who just turned 7 that has always been my "goat" she eats grass like there is no tomorrow. I got concerned when she was younger and asked the vet about it but he couldn't find anything wrong with her and still can't. So I just let her do it. So far it hasn't caused her any problems at all. I only let her do it in my yard though because I am afraid other people use pesticides or something harmful.

Okay, so you should probably follow everyone's recommendations to limit the times, places and what your dog can eat, HOWEVER, dogs, just like humans, get hungary.

Yes, you can train them but that is not always the best answer for your situation.

Instead of feeding your dog extra food or treats, try CANNED PUMPKIN. this has to be just pumpkin and not sweetened pie filling. Pumpkin is low calorie (so your dog won't gain weight), jam packed with essential vitamins and minerals AND is very filling. Have some of this on hand for those days when your dog is being a pest.

So, try to be very cautious about training, making sure your dog gets used to when it will be fed (if this is possible and you don't work shift work) and then keep some pumpkin for snack time.

Good luck!!

Make sure she is fed at ONE time in the day and in ONE place. Ask no one else to give her food. She will wine and cry, but she will get used to it soon. Feed her ONLY the recomended amount for an active Dog. Ask you vet if there are any other foods that might help calm her activity down. Take her for runs, find out what she likes to play with. Dogs eat when their bored... just like people do.

you've got to resrict her food. NO people food at all! for a while at least. give A treat once a day maybe after commanding some sort of obediance out of her. make her work for her food.

Firstly, WHY did you give your dog 2 lbs of fig newtons!?!!?! That is so bad for her!!
Ok, feed your dog once or twice a day, in the same place at the same time. Make sure that nobody in your house is feeding her table scraps. (hard to do, i know.) And make sure that those two feedings a day are the only time she gets food. Dont leave food out in her bowl. if she doesnt eat it all right away, pick it up and put it away for the next meal.
good luck.

Keep the food away from her unless it's feeding time. Dogs need an eating schedule, feed her at a certain time of day and do not let her eat whenever she wants. Feed recommended amount on the bag or from vet, even though she acts hungry she'll be fine. Tell his parents to quit feeding her.

don't put anything in a posiotion where she is able to steal them for one.Secondly, tell them upstairs not to feed her because they are killing her. Or feed her on kibble. Leave half her daily amount downstairs and the other half upstairs. Tell them that they can only give her what is in her dish. Failing that, put a stair gate across the stairs so that she isn't able to go up and beg.

You guys have to talk and co-operate. Don't give in. You give in once, you gonna have hard time. Dog will eat as much as you give them and then they will sometimes hide their food and continues eating after a short break.
