And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Genesis 14:20
And this stone, which I have set [for] a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Genesis 28:22
And all the tithe of the land, [whether] of the seed of the land, [or] of the fruit of the tree, [is] the Lord's: [it is] holy unto the Lord. And if a man will at all redeem [ought] of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth [part] thereof. And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, [even] of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord. He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.

Leviticus 27:30-33
And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, [even] the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die. But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: [it shall be] a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance. But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer [as] an heave offering unto the Lord, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the Lord, [even] a tenth [part] of the tithe.

it does not say 10% of you income. it says tithe what you own. tithe means 10%. and what you own, is everything. every lotto ticket you win, every card with birthday money in it. tax money. all of it. Giving is to be done cheerfully, rather than as an obligation (2 Corinthians 9:6-7), and not for the purpose of public recognition (Matthew 6:1-4). The amount to give is not necessarily limited to ten percent (Matthew 19:21, Luke 18:22, 21:1-4, Hebrews 13:16, 1 John 3:17). Generous giving is an acknowledgment that everything we have is a gift from God, and is to be used in His service (Luke 12:33, Acts 20:35, 1 Timothy 6:17-19, James 1:17, 1:27, 1 Peter 4:10).

Tithing is an issue that many Christians struggle with. In many churches tithing is over-emphasized. At the same time, many Christians refuse to submit to the Biblical exhortation in regards to making offerings to the Lord. Tithing / giving is intended to be a joy, a blessing. Sadly, that is rarely the case in the church today.

My husband and I never used to tithe. I wanted to but he did not. So i would give when i could, but never as much as i wanted. We tithe regularly now, and i will tell you. Let God prove it to you. Tithe and see what happens! Its not like once you do it you cant stop. We started with 1% instead of 10%. Were moving our way up to it. It really works.

First off, it doesn't say that specifically.

That being said, it does say quite a few things about what we are to do with the blessings both financial and physical that the Lord blessess us with.

There are many places in the new testament that refer to how we are to be good stewards of what God has given to us, and just giving you one or two on here might make it seem as if this is all we are to do.

I urge you to read the new testament and let God speak to you through that process rather than getting your information from many different sources based on one or two verses.

The basic idea given to us is that we must remember that all we have including our own bodies, belong to God. We must use all that we have been given for his will and his way and for his glory. This transends into how we live, how we give, and where our heart is while we are doing these things. If we are doing any of it because we feel we have to, it is of no use to God, it must be done joyfully and with an open and loving heart.

God does not put a percentage of what we must submit to him, as it all belongs to him and we are merely stewards (caretakers) of it.

It does not. But the bible does preach charity and 10 percent is a rough guide for how charitable one should be. Some characters in the bible give everything including the shirt on thier back to the poor that is way more than 10 percent

different answerers have said the passages. by skill of how, if all of us says it really is an argument of The regulation, Abraham tithed and that became many years earlier The regulation of Moses. Pray about it. seek for the scriptures. Then, take an honest look at your funds. i'm the daddy of four and the only income service. I assure you i'm no longer a legal specialist or accepted practitioner and that i make way below the files say I could (some thing like seventy 5 - 80,000 and that i make properly below 50). yet, I tithe. Are we wealthy? No. yet, our costs are paid and foodstuff is on the table. we've a private loan and 2 vehicles. issues are frequently tight, yet loosening up as life is going on. I tithe on my internet, which some argue it really is going to be on the gross. yet, we tithe the web, then tithe our tax returns. It does say in scripture that the ten% belongs to God and which skill He supplies me ninety% to do my stuff with, which extremely belongs to Him, too. again, pray about it and allow the Lord to expose you what to do and a thanks to do it.

Answer NOWHERE DOES IT SAY GIVE IT TO A CHURCH!!! the 10% was to be given to the tribe of Levi to support the Levitical priesthood at the temple and a portion of the grain, wine, firstfruits of the harvest and then there was the sin offering usually a goat or whatever a person could afford ,guilt offering and the communion sacrifice this applied ONLY TO THE NATION OF ISRAEL UNDER THE MOSIAC LAW and NOT TO ANY ONE ELSE AND WAS ABOLISHED WHEN jEESUS STARTED THE cHRISTIAN CONGREGATION so if you want to give something to your church fine if not you are not under any scriptural mandate to do so that is greed speaking Gorbalizer

YOU give as the Lord has prospered you,, you do not have to give 10 percent of anything, that was in the old days for the JEWS, the BIBLE SAYS God DOES NOT WANT YOU TO GIVE SO MUCH, THAT IT WILL BE A BURDEN ON YOU when you try to help others.. you are to give in many ways NOT just your money,, The Bilble says if your goodness, and righteousness is not MORE than the scribes, and Pharisees you ain't worth much, as a Christian, not your money..

What does God say?
You cannot ‘give’ to God. As the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, He already owns everything. Your life — the very beating of your heart — is itself a gift from God.

The earth is the Lord’s, and every thing in it, the world, and all who live in it… (Psalm 24:1).

Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God, I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it (Psalm 50:7-12).

‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty (Haggai 2:8).

“Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?” (Romans 11:35).

This rhetorical question is given no answer, because the answer is obvious. You cannot give to God with any expectation that God will end up being in debt to you.
There is a law of sowing and reaping and there are rewards for good works. But, contrary to the teachings of the prosperity crowd, you cannot act so as to place God in your debt.
God created the universe. He sustains it by the word of His power. He doesn’t need your money, and He doesn’t want your money. What God wants is you, and He wants you with a right attitude.

Malachi 3: 8-10

2006-10-02 09:19:21 · answer #9 · answered by tinkerbell 6 · 0 0

The verses are in Malachi 3:6-14
6 "I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD Almighty.
"But you ask, 'How are we to return?'

8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
"But you ask, 'How do we rob you?'
"In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. 12 "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD Almighty.

13 "You have said harsh things against me," says the LORD.
"Yet you ask, 'What have we said against you?'

14 "You have said, 'It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty? 15 But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.' "

I think the term "tithe" in the old testament referred to 10%. But what we are taught is that all money comes from God and the money should ever be considered our own. It's there to bless us and in return God wants 10% of it back to bless others.

Now, whether you donate the 10% to your local church or not is between you and God. For instance, there may be times you see someone in need and God will prompt you to help that person or organization out.

But the interesting thing is that in tithing it is the ONLY place where God says to put him to the test. If you give money back to God he will meet your needs. Now that doesn't mean I will become a millionaire, but when you give back to God, all of a sudden (even with less money) you will find that your needs will be supplied.

Giving 10% back to God is also called tithing. The first mention of thithing is in Genesis 28. This is where Jacob had the vision of the angels going up and down the ladder. He met with God and afterwards he said "and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth." Basically now its just showing that you know you have what you do cause God gave it to you and you are willing to give it back
