Well, you DO lose weight, BUT a lot of that is muscle.

There's a big difference between going on a weight loss program and going on a starvation diet. If you have a man who is eating 3,000 calories a day and decides to cut down to 2,000 calories a day to lose weight, he'll lose weight safely. But if he cuts down to 1,000 calories a day he's starving himself and will end up losing muscle weight. The general rule of thumb for grown adults to cut calories and lose weight SAFELY is 1,400 calories per day minimum for a woman and 1,800 calories a day minimum for a man (and that's for men and women of average height and body frame, so most men and women would actually need more than that). The other elements of the equation are exercise and diet content. People who cut calories that drastically need to be careful and eat healthy -- cutting out entire food or nutrient groups is a VERY BAD idea. Gotta make sure you get the right mix of protein, complex carbs, and "good" fats (monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, Omega-3, and Omega-6).

To loose 1 pound of weight you need to eliminate 3500 calories from your daily intake. However to lose fat you have burn that much calories through exercise or activity otherwise what you lose through diet alone could be water and muscle as well.

If you take in (eat) fewer calories than you burn off you will lose weight. If you eat more calories than you burn off you will gain weight. In either case it takes time to lose or gain weight

I bet if that anorexic girl kept eating she would gain back so much more than 4lbs. The more you can eat while losing weight, the more you can eat while maintaining. Remember that.

it depends what your body structure is and what your appetite is and when you go anorexic, most of the weight you lose is muscle and water. you aren't very likely to lose the fat
