Would you prefer to offer them a vast library of differing world views and allow them to formulate their own ideas about the world, or offer one book and force your world views on them?
Before it is assumed that I have none, I have two children.

I would respect my children's decisions regardless of what they decided to pursue. If thier greatest ambition is to be trashmen, so be it.

Would you respect your two children's choice if they told you they wanted to be Christians?
Not trying to upset you I am just curious.

I gave my children the opportunity to read whatever they desired.
I also sat with them. I became very involved in what they were learning so if there was any questions we could find rational comprehension to the subject matter.
We learned together many things. Most of all family values.
It worked well. All three of my grown children are well schooled in "World matters". I am now doing the same with my grandchildren.
We should all take the time to establish an understanding relationship with our children.
It pays off handsomely.

How about a happy medium of those two extremes? Give them a wide and diverse understanding of the world, along with your own guidance on what is truth from your own experience. Isn't that what parenting is all about?

I want my kids to research anything for themselves. Not come to me and ask my opinion, but scour the libraries, net, documents and come to their own truths and views on things. I will not force my beleifs on my kids. It is not right. They are not my property. They are individuals I am charged with the care and keep of until they are proper adults.

I want my son to know what competing worldviews are out there. But, I will not hesitate to proclaim that the Biblical worldview is the one our family lives by. When he is a man, he must make his own decision. He must decide what is right for him. I cannot do it for him.

My daughter was encouraged to ask questions, read, and to ultimately make her own philosophical decisions. She ultimately chose atheism. By the way, I am an atheist who is married to a theist.
