Nothing really.

The only difference is if one partner works and one doesn't, the working partner could claim the non-working partner as a dependent. But this type of dependent does not qualify the working partner as Head of Household. So his/her filing status would be Single with one dependent.

Some local law may not allow domestic partner as a dependent, i.e. FL. So check with your local accountant.

They would be taxed or not taxed the same as any other benefits. Any taxable amount is already reflected on your W-2. you don't need to pay any special attention to them.
