24-year-old husband just accepted a government job in Washington D.C. 22-year-old wife is pregnant and plans to be a stay-at-home mom. Where would be a better place to live and why? Washington DC or Maryland. The job is actually in Roslyn. Is Virginia the obvious answer because the job is in VA? If you work in VA and live in MD, do you have to pay taxes on income in both?

Please help!

Virginia is a lovely area in which to raise a family. CD is too inner city and MD is overly expensive. Although I know it is too early to be concerned about this, the school system in VA is excellent!

Happy moving!!

Have to pay state income tax based on residency
Virginia is lower for car insurance $500 in virginia will cost $750 in MD and $1000 in DC

Northern VA is probably the best.

well i know someone that works in DC and she lives in VA. She likes it. I wouldn't live in DC if I was you. It's way to expensive. Pick where it is closest and go from there. Good luck and congrats!
