in the frig and used it to start another batch will this work shouldn't there be ebough yeast in that quart to do the job?

NOOOOO, you can't even move the thing you are brewing in!!! It will mess up the whole process! My hubby made beer and it was GREAT!!!

Where did you get your yeast? yeast packets are very inexpensive. On Ebay you can find anything you want. You do not want to mess with your batch even though there is little danger of contamination. If you are using a special yeast then you should keep a culture going . Use sugar water and yeast nutrient in a vented sealed container you can refrigerate it with out killing the yeast. Just pour a little off into a clean new container with water,sugar and nutrient about once a week.

Wait until the batch slows down...pretty much stops, actually. When you're ready to rack the beer into its secondary fermentaion vessel, sanitize a 2 quart jar and pour the slurry that you don't siphon off into the sanitized jar. You can use this slurry to start your next batch. It's commonly done among home brewers and micro breweries.

You can even go one step further and "wash" the yeast from this slurry...here's one way how:
